Super Mario Bros.

• Lava Bubble (Originally named "Podoboo", likely derived from an alteration of the hypothetical「ボウットボウ」(Bōttobō), a Japanese name derived from「ボウッと」(bōtto), onomatopoeia for something flaring up, and「坊」(bō), an affectionate suffix for boys, via misintepretation of the voiceless「ト」(to) with its voiced counterpart,「ド」(do) and a misinterpretation of the first「ボ」(bo) as「ポ」(po) via a confusion of the two diacritic signs used in Japanese. However, the enemy has never named「ボウットボウ」in Japanese, with the enemy usually generically referred to as「バブル」(Baburu, "Bubble"), though a similar enemy from Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3, Bō, shares a similar etymology with "Podoboo".)

Super Mario Bros. 3

• Goomba's Shoe (Referred to as a "Karoobi" in The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3, a transliteration error of Goomba's Japanese name,「クリボー」(Kuribō), possibly partially through metathesis of the "i" and "o" sounds in the name, which would result in「クロビー」(Kurubī).)

• Mekabon (Alteration of「メカポン」(Mekapon) via incorrectly transliterating「ポ」(po) as「ボ」(bo) due to a confusion of the two diacritic signs used in Japanese.)
