.gif uploads[edit]

In the early days especially, many of the rules we have today weren't set yet. I raise my eyebrow at you saying things like that to Sir Grodus, who basically single-handedly build the wiki two decades ago. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 17:59, March 7, 2026 (UTC)

But Sir Grodus considered that Yoshi's Story pre-release logo as a non-animated .GIF without giving us a reason. And why are we allowed to upload non-animated .GIF images for no reason? 51.171.118.253 08:05, March 13, 2026 (UTC)

That
Was in
2007.
Like I said, the rules weren't set then. Also, those came straight from the Yoshi's Story official website, which indeed saved everything as .gif. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 14:59, March 13, 2026 (UTC)
Yes. Also, Doc von Schmeltwick, while you raise your eyebrow at 51.171.118.253 for saying things like that to Sir Grodus, I raise my eyebrow at uploading non-animated .GIF images and users who are doing the action (see my comment on MarioWiki talk:Image use policy § Non-animated .GIF images). 51.183.19.94 15:07, May 6, 2026 (UTC)
What do you not understand about "that was normal in 2007." That policy did not exist then. Chewing people out for not following a rule that would not even be written until years later is not just wrong, it's dumb. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 16:04, May 6, 2026 (UTC)

Please slow down[edit]

You keep adding plenty of dubiously-justified comparisions, relations, and variants, and adding increasingly poorly justified maintenance templates. It is policy to not just apply maintenance templates without a proper rationale, and doing something like marking the Bombite redirect for immediate deletion without considering where it even goes to, just immediately assuming it counts as "unofficial", and leaving others to have to puzzle out what is going on, is definitely not a proper rationale for these purposes. Camwoodstock-sigicon.png~Camwoodstock ( talk contribs ) Camwoodstock-sigicon2.png 19:15, March 7, 2026 (UTC)

But Bombite is a Zelda enemy, not a Super Mario one so I think it should be deleted. And people should stop saying that Zelda enemies are Super Mario enemies without having a discussion. 51.171.118.253 19:23, March 7, 2026 (UTC)
We do actually cover crossover appearances when relevant, such as the Bombites being a variant of Bob-ombs exclusively seen in Zelda games. There's similar deals with Manhandla and Head Thwomp, who have been extremely non-contentious in their inclusion on the wiki. We would recommend referring to the Coverage policy. Smooch Spiders from Yoshi's Woolly World and Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World are similar to spiders from Yoshi's Story rather than Smeeches from Super Mario Galaxy 2?[edit]

Smooch Spiders from Yoshi's Woolly World and Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World are not similar to spiders from Yoshi's Story, are they? They are more similar to Smeeches from Super Mario Galaxy 2, as both are enemies that kiss Yoshi. 51.171.118.253 08:18, March 13, 2026 (UTC)

Tangential similarities don't make for mechanical similarities, which is what the comparable parameter is for. The only link between Smooch Spiders and Smeeches is "kissing Yoshi", and they otherwise function entirely differently. Camwoodstock-sigicon.png~Camwoodstock ( talk contribs ) Camwoodstock-sigicon2.png 15:20, March 13, 2026 (UTC)

But Smooch Spiders are similar to spiders? You can't say 2 enemies that behave different behave similar. I still think these are similar to Smeeches, not spiders. 51.171.118.253 15:30, March 13, 2026 (UTC)

Yoshi's Story Spiders dangle passively from ceilings, and are impervious to multiple forms of damage, meaning they should be dodged rather than interacted with, similarly to Smooch Spiders. There is an actual, tangible mechanical similarity between the two, rather than just the superficial similarity of "kissing Yoshi", which functions entirely differently between the two games anyhow (a Smeech's "kiss" disables Yoshi's tongue until it's removed, a Smooch Spider's "kiss" is just a more flavorful way of damaging Yoshi). Camwoodstock-sigicon.png~Camwoodstock ( talk contribs ) Camwoodstock-sigicon2.png 15:37, March 13, 2026 (UTC)
But spiders and Smooch Spiders have no relation other than having to be dodged rather than interacted with and being arachnids. They function completely differently, and spiders do not kiss Yoshi nor do Smooch Spiders dangle from ceilings. 51.183.19.94 16:27, May 6, 2026 (UTC)

♥♪!?, ♥♪!?283468 and ♥♪!?46454, the gibberish users...[edit]

♥♪!?, ♥♪!?283468 and ♥♪!?46454 all have similar names. Are they related to each other? ♥♪!?46454 has been blocked indefinitely from editing the Super Mario Wiki for considering Rollodillo as unknown and being a sockpuppet of ♥♪!?283468, while ♥♪!?283468 blanked pages, added a comment to the Super Paper Mario section of the Sleep article, added Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars images in the summary for the sprite of the Z-Yux enemy from Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and evaded bans by making sockpuppets (probably ♥♪!?46454) during temporary blocks. I'm not so sure if ♥♪!? is a sockpuppet of ♥♪!?283468 or not, but this user is not blocked, unlike the others, despite having a similar name. They all have talk pages, except for ♥♪!?46454, whose talk page was deleted because sockpuppets don't get talk pages. 51.171.118.253 09:03, March 13, 2026 (UTC)

Each of these are "gibberish" because they start with Geno's "real name," ♥♪!?. You're also chasing after two sockpuppets who were active in 2011, and are suspecting a user who a user who has not made an edit since 2007. If there's even a case here to be built, it has been so long and the case has gone so cold that holding it against them would almost certainly go against the Courtesy policy's stance on "do not hold old offenses against an otherwise good user", considering the suspected user has been dormant for a period of time that is, in of itself, old enough to vote in most countries. Results May Vary and Alex 95 were blocked?[edit]

Turboo and Xiahou Ba, why did you block Results May Vary and Alex 95? 51.171.118.253 15:34, March 13, 2026 (UTC)

Reason for being blocked by Sparks...[edit]

Sparks, why did you think I was vandalising pages and then you blocked me for 2 weeks? I think another administrator should change your user groups from admin. to none and then block you indefinitely because it looks like you're putting My Little Pony-based content into pages, but that's not why you are putting Mario & Luigi: Brothership images, for whatever reason. 51.171.118.253 16:07, March 13, 2026 (UTC)

Attackers are Beespies?[edit]

Attackers from Donkey Kong 3 and its Dai Gyakushū sequel are not Beespies, are they? Attackers are mosquitoes, while Beespies are larger Buzzbees (in turn being small bees). Both sprites from the arcade version (see the damaged Beespy on the left and the Attacker on the right).
