Only the first one initially appears in each level they are encountered in; however, once the player collects the first one, a hidden timer activates for each subsequent Crown Chip. The player must then collect the Crown Chips before each timer runs out. If the player fails to collect any Crown Chip within any time limit, they must restart their progress from the beginning.
