Red Chomp

The Red Chomp is a very strong variety of Chomps (though weaker than regular Chomps, except in Super Paper Mario). They can be found only in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Super Paper Mario and in Mario Party 7. In Mario Party 7, he gives the rider a lift and smacks the stars out of other players. In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, they are immune to fire attacks. In Super Paper Mario, they appear in Chapter 8-4, hiding in the Basement.

Red Chomps, as their name implies, are red-colored sub-species of Chomps introduced in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. Though in that game they are weaker than their black counterparts, they have the same attack pattern as regular Chomps: they lunge at their opponents in order to bite them. Red Chomps are first seen in the Glitz Pit, during Chapter 3, as members of the Major League team called Chomp Country. Their initial ranking is 2 (n°1 being The Koopinator), but they eventually downgrade to rank 3 after Mario's victory over Rawk Hawk. Several Red Chomps can also be found in the Pit of 100 Trials, on floors 54 and 59. These enemies are immune to fire attacks, and have a high defense.

A Red Chomp appears in Mario Party 7, in Pyramid Park. For 10 coins, he will let a player use three Dice Blocks and ride on him, moving that many spaces around the board. If the Red Chomp manages to ram another player, a star is stolen from the victim and given to the player riding the Chomp.

Red Chomps' latest appearance was in Super Paper Mario. These enemies are found in Castle Bleck Foyer and inner sanctum. In Chapter 8-2, several Red Chomps are hiding in the basements, waiting for Mario and his allies to fall into one of Mimi's traps. Unlike in the previous Paper Mario game, Red Chomps are actually stronger than regular Chain Chomps.

Trivia

• In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Goombella suggest that Red Chomps ar actually Chain Chomps that were painted red while they were sleeping. However, this is but an unconfirmed rumor.
• In Super Paper Mario, Tippi mentions that it likes pizza sauce. This could be a joke on the fact that the Chain-Chomp's appearance is like Pac-Man, who was based on a pizza.
