Banana Birds have an essential role in Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!. A Banana Bird can usually be obtained from a Secret Cave, where the player must play a memory game and copy the order in which the four crystals flash. If done correctly, a Banana Bird gets released from the crystal at the top of the ceiling. A few of the Banana Birds can be obtained from a Brothers Bear. In the Game Boy Advance remake, Dixie and Kiddy can earn a Banana Bird from Funky Kong, Swanky Kong and Cranky Kong if the player completes their respective minigames.
