Blooper Barrage is a boss minigame featured in Mario Party 9.
Introduction[edit]
The view shows a ship out at sea, with some islands nearby. The camera then zooms in on the ship and then on a whirlpool, which Blooper emerges from. The view then pans back to the players on the ship, cannons mounted.
Gameplay[edit]
The players must point and fire at Blooper while it is out of the ocean. After a few seconds of remaining above the ocean, Blooper dives back down. Each successful hit earns the player one point. Blooper attacks by tossing Urchins at the players. The Urchins can be shot down, and getting hit by one deducts a point from the player. Each time an Urchin is shot by a player, unless it is close enough to the player, it heads towards another. When Blooper loses half its health, it becomes enraged; it moves faster, shoots ink at parts of the screen to make it harder for the players to see, and tosses more Urchins. The player who delivers the final attack earns three additional points, and the player who scores the most points wins. If five minutes pass and Blooper has not been defeated, the minigame ends in a draw.
Blooper has 20 hit points in this minigame.
Ending[edit]
Blooper moves around dazed and then explodes. The whirlpool dies down, and several Mini Stars appear in Party Mode and Solo Mode.
In-game text[edit]
- Rules – "Blast Blooper with your cannon! Make sure you shoot down any Urchins that come flying your way!"
- Controls – "Hold the Wii Remote vertically. Point at the area you want to shoot, and press to fire."
