Essentially, they are only floating miniature [[Snifit]]s, but one unique trait is that Snufits inflate like a balloon before firing. Snifits[1] (originally known as Snufits),[2] known as Sniffits in Super Mario 64 DS,[3] are enemies that appear in Super Mario 64. Different sources list them as either an unusual design of the enemies of the same name or ghost-like cousins of them. They resemble their original versions, as they wear masks with bullet-shooting mouth nozzles, but are noticeably different in that they lack legs and float in the air instead of walking. The name "Snufit" is likely a pun on "snuff it," a colloquialism for dying, while "Sniffit" may simply be a typographical error.

Super Mario 64 / Super Mario 64 DS[edit]

In Super Mario 64, Snufits appear in the Hazy Maze and Cavern of the Metal Cap. They have a round Boo-like appearance and wear white masks. When Mario approaches a Snufit, it shoots a burst of small bullets out of its mouth, although this action is preceded by briefly swelling up like a balloon before firing. Snufits can be defeated by any basic attack.

Sniffits reappear in Super Mario 64 DS, retaining their behavior. Here, their design is more faithful in appearance and shape to black-masked Snifits, but they have long sleeves and long tails, making them resemble Boo Guys. Their heights from the ground have also been made less varied.

Mario Party 2[edit]

In Mario Party 2, on the board Space Land, this variation of Snifit appears as the members of the Snifit Patrol. In Mario Party Superstars, they are replaced with ordinary Snifits.

An unused model for this type of Snifit exists in Mario Party 3, though in the final game, the traditional design appears instead.
