Spikes appear in the Wario Land series as stationary, indestructible obstacles found in various environments. They come in various forms, inter alia as iron balls with pointy spikes, rotating thorns or electrical traps. Spikes hurt Wario and knock him backwards if he touches them. Spikes cannot be destroyed by anything and thus have to be avoided.

History[edit]

Wario Land series[edit]

Wario Land 2[edit]

Spikes make an appearance in Wario Land II. and are first seen in a level called Through the thorny maze!! in Maze Woods. Most levels that include these obstacles also feature an owl that carries Wario through the air. The spikes serve as obstacles in these passages, making navigation through the air more difficult.

Wario Land 3[edit]

Spikes reappear in Wario Land 3 where they serve the same purpose as in the previous game. In this game, they always have the same design, but the palette changes depending on the level and time of day.

Wario Land 4[edit]

Spikes in Wario Land 4 are uncommon hazards in the game and have a similar role as Togemasuku; however, spikes cannot be destroyed at all. Wario can freely pass through them without taking damage as Frozen Wario and Zombie Wario. Enemies, rocks, and Arewo Shitain-hakase can freely pass through them. They can be found in the levels The Toxic Landfill, Domino Row, Arabian Night, and Golden Passage, as well as in some pink areas.

Wario Land: Shake It![edit]

In Wario Land: Shake It!, small, round spiky obstacles appear in Boogie Mansion. They lie between the two ends of climbable poles that move up and down; if Wario holds on to a moving pole for too long, he may be brought into the spikes.

WarioWare Gold[edit]

Thorns reappear in WarioWare Gold in the microgame Wario Land 3 as obstacles.
