World 8-1 is the first level of World 8 in New Super Mario Bros. Wii. It is a volcanic level full of lava, and is the first to feature Lava Geysers. Volcanic debris falls from the sky and a cloud of ash follows the players from the left to the right.
Layout[edit]
This level is completely filled with lava. An ash cloud chases Mario and co. from the start to the end of the level, slowly consuming the entire level. If Mario and co. touch the cloud or a body of lava, they lose a life. Volcanic debris also falls from the sky, and geysers of lava will erupt periodically from their lava pools. Various metal platforms can be found floating above the lava which slowly sink if stepped on; once Mario and co. are no longer standing atop the platform, it rises back to its original position. Buzzy Beetles are very common in this level, and are the only non-obstacle enemy present.
Star Coins[edit]

Not long before the midway point is a long platform, and the first Star Coin is to its high right. Mario and co. must wait for the platform to tilt all the way to its left and then jump off the raised right end to get the Star Coin.
Mario and co. must pick up the POW Block and activate it near the row of three bricks and two ? Blocks before they are destroyed by volcanic debris. The second Star Coin will then fall within reach.
Instead of exiting with the usual green Warp Pipe, Mario and co. must go past it. Once there, they can obtain the third Star Coin by destroying the bricks surrounding it (or allowing the volcanic debris to do so) and using the trampoline to jump up to it. |
