The surfboard (also specified as a human surfboard)[1] is a form taken on by Luigi in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga and its remake. Luigi gains this form by being hammered into metal slots called Surfing Spots by Mario using the Dunk Hammer move. Surfing Spots are located near the edge of water in Oho Ocean and its surrounding areas, including Oho Oasis, Beanbean Fields, Gwarhar Lagoon, and Joke's End, and are only accessible after Mario and Luigi obtain Ultra Hammers. After being hammered into a Surfing Spot, Luigi becomes long and flat similar to an ordinary surfboard, allowing Mario to ride on him and surf over water at high speed. Luigi can be made to jump into the air while surfing, which allows the brothers to pop balloons and collect coins located above the water's surface. The form lasts until Mario and Luigi reach dry land or fall into one of Oho Ocean's whirlpools (which also send them to the Seabed), at which point Mario uses a bicycle pump to help Luigi return to his normal shape.
Using this form is required to access Joke's End for the first time, as it is completely cut off from the mainland, thought it may later be accessed via Warp Pipe. It can also be used to play the Surfing Game in the southeastern part of Oho Ocean.
