Dude whats WITH the TV cartoons that are not relevant here? This is a Mario Wiki not a cartoon Wiki.(Super F22 Pilot 00:46, 30 November 2007 (EST))

It's simply a listing of all the known Mario references that can be found in non-Mario shows. What doesn't belong on this page? -- Booster

Yes, it lists all the references and sightings of Mario in other non-related TV shows. My Bloody Valentine And, in a similar fashion to what Booster said, what is out of place here?

Hey guys I'm going to remove the section about the Barnyard, because suck up ghosts is a refrance to Ghost Busters, not Luigi's Mansion. -Nerdy Guy

I think that in an episode of southpark, there are two blurry screenshots from SMB and SMB2 on a couple of arcade machines. check it out on themushroomkingdom.net on the refrences page. Senor Luigi20:01, 27 May 2009 (EDT)

Tales of Symphonia Anime

I think there is a Mario reference in the ending credits of episode 3. During the credits, the group travels through a forest and several mushroom-enemies appear. One of the protagonists defeats them by jumping on all of them in a row, similar to stomping on a row of Goombas. In addition, a ghost shows up, behaving similar to a Boo (he does not attack when directly faced)

MAD

In Cliffordfield and Big Time Rushmore one sketch shows two Goombas, then one gets stomped by Mario and the other one starts freaking out. The same thing happens later on in the episode.--Mr. 8-bit 11:10, 19 October 2010 (UTC)

Ok. You can add that to the article.--Knife (talk) 18:17, 20 October 2010 (UTC)

Pinky Dinky Doo

In the episode "Burpzilla", when Pinky jumps out of the car to use her big idea, she does a somersalt move just like Mario in Super Mario Bros 3. Also, in the episode "Speed Rocket", the race is similar to Mario Kart. Except no powerups in order to prevent ripoffs from Mario Kart games

Spongebob Squarepants

In the episode "Atlantis Squarepantis, the game Mission Start: The Germ Warrior is similar to a Mario game

Zig and Sharko

In the episode "The Island Tour", Zig and Sharko go into a Mario game from a pipe. Also when the characters race, it is similar to Mario Kart

Toddworld

In the episode "Sophie's Sinking Feeling", when the characters ride the Bath-Mobile (an invention by Sophie), it goes in a 2-D Mario-like action, also when the jump in the water, it is similar to Super Mario 64 when they splash the water.

Mickey Mouse

In the episode "Tokyo Go", when Mickey goes through a tunnel, the scene changes to that of a video game, which is Mario-like

Spider-Man

The description mentions "the new animated Spider-Man TV show". Question is, which one exactly? Is it talking about Spectacular Spider-Man or Ultimate Spider-Man? (Personally, I'm presuming the description meant the former, considering the Jeph Loeb-induced vitirol for the latter... Of course, we all have to be sure first.) Pikawil 00:35, 6 July 2012 (EDT)

The Hell is with this stupid page?

Okay look some of these reference are fine, but other things just seem made up? Homer wearing a red shirt and over alls? Like, that's a reference because they didn't choose one of the less common colors for shirts?

Here's a list of references I'm nominating for removal and why.

Kirby: Right Back At Ya!

In the episode "A Princess in Dis-Dress", Escargoon says the princess who is visiting is a peach. Also, things resembling Party Balls appear in a few episodes.
Party Balls weren't created by Nintendo. They don't even feature in any Mario game

Regular Show

Ello Gov'nor
In this episode, Mordecai rents a movie called "Shy Guy".

NO! Shy Guy is just the English name of heihos, there isn't a reference there. It's probably more of a reference to Mordecai's anxiety about the Margaret character.

King of the Hill In some episodes, the Souphanousinphones have a pet terrier named "Doggie Kahn", which is most likely a parody of "Donkey Kong". NOOOOO! NOOOOO! Khan is the man of the family's name. He named his daughter after himself because he's egotistical.

Additionally

  • Just because someone is named Bowser doesn't make them a reference. Bowser is a semi popular British name.
    • "Bowser" is also a slang term for a dog. --The Iconoclast (talk) 15:51, 7 December 2012 (EST)
  • Angry faces on bombs weren't something invented by Super Mario World. People have been doing that since World War 2.

This page just annoys me so much.--Nintenfreak (talk) 13:40, 6 December 2012 (EST)

In addition to what you've mentioned, there's a ridiculous number of entries that seems to assume Mario invented cartoon man-eating plants. I'd clean it myself, but, time. --Glowsquid (talk) 14:12, 6 December 2012 (EST)

Hey!

Someone caught me with that Mad section!! R O Y

Finishing Code Monkeys

Whoever finished the Code Monkeys section, I want to thank you! I've been working on that section for so long but never got to finish it because I was too busy to finish and research on Code Monkeys and return to here. Zero777 (talk)

Robot Chicken

I request the Robot Chicken section to be separated by sub-sections (named by the sketch name). --Michael (talk) 04:58, 19 May 2014 (EDT)

FOP

That section should include "Class Clown", because on FOP wiki, the reference can be found. And that f**king Baby Luigi doesn't say it's a reference. I have no account there, I just read. IT IS A D**N REFERENCE! Big Face item from Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic. Unshy Guy 08:19, 30 September 2014 (EDT)

Even though you crossed it out, I think you're borderline personally attacking me. BabyLuigiFire.pngRay Trace(T|C) 16:39, 30 September 2014 (EDT)
It's a reference because wikia site says so. Legit. I'm pretty sure something like this merde' was taken from the Spongebob Squarepants wikia. Just because it's a human-eating plant doesn't make it a reference to Mario. These kinds of plant have been in pop culture ever since the existence of venus fly traps. Have you read the above discussions? Icon showing how many lives Mario has left. From Super Mario 64 DS. It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 16:41, 30 September 2014 (EDT)

New reference

At 0:31, You can see the animated series "Doki" with a Super mario reference!!

Additional Images

Which kinds of images in particular do we need? And how would one upload images? Would we just upload pictures from the internet, and what role do copyrights play? ThePeachinator (talk) 01:50, 27 April 2016 (EDT)

images from videos, like a screencap of the said reference from youtube. also, you don't need to worry about copyright, this isn't youtube with the content id crap system. BabyLuigiFire.pngRay Trace(T|C) 02:16, 29 April 2016 (EDT)

Mr. Men Donkey Kong Reference

Is this ape Donkey Kong being referenced in the animated TV show The Mr. Men Show? --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 22:14, 24 May 2016 (EDT)

The simplest way to figure that out is to see the image in context to the episode. -- Ghost JamShyghost.PNG 22:18, 24 May 2016 (EDT)
What is the episode called? --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 22:24, 24 May 2016 (EDT)
No clue, but I'm sure we could Google it or something. -- Ghost JamShyghost.PNG 23:10, 24 May 2016 (EDT)
The episode is called "Mr. Brave vs. Koko the Gorilla" and can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7-31t75xj0
Appears to not be a DK reference, rather a generic King Kong reference. -- Ghost JamShyghost.PNG 16:18, 27 May 2016 (EDT)
Too generic to be a reference. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 19:49, 31 May 2016 (EDT)
If there are no further opinions on this, I'm going to remove the talk tag and delete the image. -- Ghost JamShyghost.PNG 19:46, 31 May 2016 (EDT)

Why is the Loud House on here?

Maybe Can You add Mario references in other shows (Sergeant Stripes, Doris (Hilary Hayton), Animal Stories, Meeow!, Cyberchase, El Perro y el Gato, Archibald the Koala, James the Cat, Poppy Cat and Rocket Power)?

Meeow!

On the Episode "MaisieMac and the Gorilla", The Gorilla looks similar and resemble to Donkey Kong.--CitationNeeded (talk) 23:57, 11 April 2018 (EDT)

Schoolhouse Rock!

On the Song "Unpack Your Adjectives", The Turtle looks mostly like a Koopa Troopa.

On the Song "The Greatest Show on Earth", The Man bears some resemblance to Wario and Waluigi.

At end of the Song "A Victim of Gravity", After an Apple hits Isaac Newton's Head, Isaac Newton makes a Face like a Shy Guy Mask.

--CitationNeeded (talk) 18:40, 28 April 2018 (EDT)

According to this, the episodes with those songs aired before those subjects were created, meaning the similarities are most likely coincidences. --A sprite of a Flame Chomp from New Super Mario Bros. Wii.TheFlameChomp (talk) 18:45, 28 April 2018 (EDT)

The Owl and Co.

I've found a reference of it. First of all, the Owl and the Chick played a game, they used helmets to connect themselves to the game, when they collected items and jumped, the sounds were from the SNES games. After beating themselves up, they've got into the game. They reached a boss. The boss looked similar to a Chain Chomp. --83.156.220.80 03:29, 3 July 2018 (EDT)

Rabbids Invasion

In the episode Gorilla Rabbid, in the scene where the Gorilla Rabbid take the female Rabbid cop to the top of the ramp, the Gorilla Rabbid starts throwing barrels at the male Rabbid cop, where it well cut to a retro style of that scene. As if you can probably tell, this is a reference to Donkey Kong.

I reverted them for that exact reason; they were all added by an anon consecutively, so I was able to revert them all. TheDarkStar Sprite of the Dark Star from Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey 16:44, July 14, 2019 (EDT)

Possible missing content

I'm not sure if you have every cartoon that's in the YouTube video I'm about to send you the name of, but... Mario Evolution in Movies, Cartoons & TV by Darwin's Media. Lord Falafel (talk) 11:25, August 3, 2019 (EDT)

The Star of Christmas

No, I'm not talking about the artifact. I'm saying that the Mario reference in the VeggieTales Star of Christmas episode might be an unintentional coincidence based on speculation and assumption. Sure, both Mario and "The Princess and the Plumber" in VeggieTales involve a princess and a plumber, but the storylines are completely different. Most Mario games see Mario and/or Luigi rescue Princess Peach from Bowser. The Princess and the Plumber's plot in VeggieTales, on the other hand, goes a little something like this...
"On the night before Christmas, the princess' sink backs up and so of course she calls the plumber. Now unbeknownst to the plumber, the princesses' pipes are magic pipes. So, as he's working on them on Christmas Eve, he is visited by the 4 fairy peas of Christmas and the Sugar-Plumber fairy."

The ending is also completely different, too:
"The plumber has defeated the evil Monkey King in a plunger duel, the Sugar-Plumber Fairy has turned the wicked building inspector into a newt, thereby declaring the castle inhabitable and reducing the need for flood insurance and for the first time, the princess realizes that it's the plumber that she's loved all along."

Not only that, but I watched the Behind the Scenes feature on the DVD and they didn't mention "The Princess and the Plumber" being an intentional reference to Mario in any capacity...unless I'm mis-remembering something.

All-in-all, just a coincidence and probably based on assumption, but I don't want to remove it just yet. What do you think? Is it an intentional reference or a pure coincidence? – Owencrazyboy9 (talk) 16:06, August 6, 2019 (EDT)

It seems coincidental to me. The only similarities are the mere presence of a princess and a plumber, otherwise there's no actual references to the game. While there is mention of a monkey king which could be interpreted as a reference to Donkey Kong, it could also easily be a reference to the mouse king from the Nutcracker, which wouldn't surprise me at all given the mention of an obvious sugar plum fairy spoof in the same sentence. --Waluigi's head icon in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Too Bad! Waluigi Time! 17:31, August 6, 2019 (EDT)

I know that this has been deleted and finished a while ago, but there is conclusive proof that the Mario references were completely coincidental. Ma321 (talk) 22:59, December 16, 2022 (EST)

Missing Show

Why is The Amazing World of Gumball not there? Is there no link to it, or have you guys not seen it and saw a Mario reference? (Not to be rude or anything, just asking.) Killer (talk) 19:13, November 13, 2019 (EST)

Nooooo... wait. I see it. But these shows with 'The' in them should be put in the T's. Killer (talk) 19:15, November 13, 2019 (EST)

No, they should not. That's not how the world works. I've seen books at the library and movies and TV shows at Barnes and noble and they don't have that stuff with the word the being the first word of the media, but rather the next word. Also, how does one not get banned by having the name killer? No disrespect, just baffled. Lord Falafel (talk) 20:26, November 13, 2019 (EST)

BoJack Horseman-Mr. Peanut-Butter's Boos

I was told to put what I discover on the talk page and I have more to discuss later on. Anyways in the BoJack episode, Mr. Peanut-Butter's Boos, when Katrina confronts Peanut-Butter by telling him she not having any fun, Mr. Peanut-Butter starts making Donkey Kong noises from Mario Kart 64. I cannot be the only one who noticed this.-Tommypezmaster

Or it's just a sound that just sounds like it (just watched the episode and it doesn't). The shot of Jessica Biel also looks nothing like the Luigi's Mansion boxart. Please stop confusing things that are only passing and tenuous similarities with references. Marie costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 20:16, October 30, 2020 (EDT)

Noticed for Sound effects heard in animation/cartoons

As I have noticed this, Bowser's roar sound and Donkey Kong's gorilla grunting sound from Mario Kart 64/first three Mario Party games/Mario Tennis (N64)/Mario Golf 64 heard in many animation/cartoons was most likely both stock sound effects. Same happens with Mario warping into something sound and Boo's laugh/Bowser's laugh from Super Mario 64 which is also both stock sound effects.--98.255.152.166 01:40, November 4, 2020 (EST)

The Tom and Jerry Show: Kitten Grifters

I actually stumbled upon an actual reference this time. In Kitten Grifters, When Tom and Jerry go after a crimial in a construction site, They come to pillars w/ barrels on them. Video Game music plays in the background and they bump into barrels, which causes them to roll down the pillars. A DOnkey Kong Reference.-Tommypezmaster

Alpha Betas

For those who have not heard about it, it is a new animated show partially created by YouTuber Vanossgaming and three others. As of now only a pilot episode has been aired on Vanoss's YouTube channel, and it is awaiting to be picked up by another company. The episode itself had a quick spoof of the Donkey Kong arcade game in it. I'm bringing this up because I'm wondering, is this the sort of thing we would list in this page or any of these other "List of Mario references" pages? Mario jumping Nightwicked Bowser Bowser emblem from Mario Kart 8 21:01, March 14, 2021 (EDT)

Probably would belong on List of Mario references on the Internet unless the show gets picked up and actually airs. --Waluigi's head icon in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Too Bad! Waluigi Time! 21:13, March 14, 2021 (EDT)

There have been loads of Mario references in cartoons like SpongeBob SquarePants and The Loud House.

There have been loads of Mario references in cartoons like SpongeBob SquarePants and The Loud House. For example, in a lot of cartoons nowadays, there are people who's overalls look like Mario's and their hats can look like Mario's too. 107.146.244.150 17:28, July 14, 2021 (EDT)

Clothing "looking similar" is not a reference. This sort of thing is deleted immediately. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 17:40, July 14, 2021 (EDT)

OK. That was what I was originally going to do until I decided not too. 107.146.244.150 17:43, July 14, 2021 (EDT)

Harley Quinn

Alright, so I just noticed this. In Harley Quinn S1 E7, at about 19:19, Kite Man pauses a video game and the sound effect is near-identical to the one from Super Mario World. I don't know if this is evident enough, but I heard it and immediately noticed the parallels. I don't know if there's anything else, but I just wanted to point this out because it was pretty cool, not gonna lie.

Yo Gabba Gabba!

Yo Gabba Gabba! had some animated segments that were video game-themed and probably had a Mario reference in there somewhere.--74.64.68.192

"Probably" means it shouldn't be listed here unless it actually is intentional. Mario jumping Nightwicked Bowser Bowser emblem from Mario Kart 8 13:42, November 24, 2022 (EST)
Well, if you want to sift through them just to make sure, watch them here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hiqk1G6TSuA the one with the teeth is very obviously a Dr. Mario reference, and the one with the pirate ship is very obviously a Donkey Kong refrence.--74.64.68.192
Are there any time stamps you can give me? Mario jumping Nightwicked Bowser Bowser emblem from Mario Kart 8 13:52, November 24, 2022 (EST)
At 0:10 is the first teeth one, and at 0:19 is the first pirate ship one. There are also ones that could be considered references to Luigi's Mansion or Mario Kart, but to me they're too different.--74.64.68.192
I don't know Dr. Mario well enough to judge on that one, but the pirate ship one doesn't look much like Donkey Kong; there's not even an equivalent of Donkey Kong throwing barrels. Mario jumping Nightwicked Bowser Bowser emblem from Mario Kart 8 14:04, November 24, 2022 (EST)
The germs are the Dr. Mario reference there, and just because there's no Kong equivalent doesn't mean it's not a reference, as there's also a Q-Bert reference with no enemies. There's also one at 13:28 that's closer to Mario Kart than the rest, and one even closer to Donkey Kong at 16:10.--74.64.68.192
Climbing ladders in an 8 bit sidescroller isn't something that would always instantly reference Donkey Kong, it would have to be a lot more than that for it to be properly intentional. Mario Kart is a stretch since there's dozens of other kart racing video games. Mario jumping Nightwicked Bowser Bowser emblem from Mario Kart 8 16:00, November 24, 2022 (EST)
Well, I can see your point there, but the teeth one is clearly a Dr. Mario reference. Even though it's absolutely not the same, the germs are clearly based off of the Viruses. They even do the same little dance!--74.64.68.192
