First appearance Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins (1992)

A Karakara is an enemy from Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins. These one-eyed umbrellas with a human foot and sandals are found near the start and the end of the second level of the Pumpkin Zone. They will unfold and launch into the air, then float downwards while moving back and forth. A Karakara can be defeated by a jump or a fireball. They are based on the karakasa-obake, a yōkai spirit from Japanese mythology.[1]

Ignore and disregard when you meet them.
Karakasa ghosts descend from the sky above, swinging from side to side. It is very difficult to step on, so unless you are Fire Mario, you should proceed onward without thinking about defeating it.
