Mario and Luigi's father (called Papa by Mario) is a very minor fictional character in the Super Mario series and its spin-offs who has made at least four one-time appearances throughout a variety of media, one of which, Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3, was a re-release of one of his earlier appearances, Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. The character has yet to be given an official name beyond Mario's affectionate name for him, but if he passed his last name down to Mario and Luigi, his last name would be "Mario." His relationship with Mama Mario, his boys' mother, remains unclear. She lives with him in all of his appearances, The Super Mario Bros. Super Show episode "Fake Bro" revealed that she had a maiden name implying that she had been at one time married, and currently shares the last name, "Mario," with her boys, but whether or not she ever was or still is married to Mario and Luigi's father is unconfirmed.
