UploadsEdit

Hello, MarioKartFan4863927. Good job on your recent uploads, but when uploading files, keep in mind that you must correctly categorize the file. It's simple to learn how to do so. Just search for the correct category by starting with the following groups:

Images Audio/video files

When uploading, copy the full title of the category and insert it in square brackets into the summary text box below the aboutfile template, replacing the uncategorized template entirely. If you're using the upload function from the text editor, simply add the category link to the description. For example, files related to the game Super Mario World would use:

or

Please consider the above information before uploading more files. Keep in mind that some files can belong to multiple categories. Do not put images into the media files category, or vice versa. If you continue uploading files without categorizing them correctly, then a warning will be issued. Thank you for reading, and keep contributing.

Hello, MarioKartFan4863927. Good job on your recent uploads, but when uploading files, keep in mind that you must apply the proper license. A full list of licenses can be found in the file copyright tags category, but the following are the most common:

 • photo - Used for photographs of real-life subjects.
 • art - Used for artwork of something that is not a character.
 • comic-scene - Used for scans of a comic.
 • comic-cover - Used for covers of comic books.
 • tv-screenshot - Used for screenshots of television shows.
 • film-screenshot - Used for screenshots of movies.
 • video-screenshot - Used for other screenshots, such as those from YouTube.

When uploading, select the license from the drop-down box below the summary text box, or add the license manually after uploading or if you're using the upload function from the text editor. For example, artwork of Mario would use character-artwork.

Please consider the above information before uploading more files. Don't include multiple copyright templates; choose the one that you feel best fits the file. If you continue uploading files without applying the correct license, then a warning will be issued. Thank you for reading, and keep contributing.

Hello, MarioKartFan4863927. Good job on your recent uploads, but when uploading files, keep in mind that you must correctly use the aboutfile template. What you were doing looks like this, and it is an inconvenience for other users to fix up the template. It is simple to learn how to format it correctly. The pre-loaded syntax is shown below.

Just replace the necessary parts with that corresponding information, and remove the entire line for the parameter(s) you don't use. Please consider the above information before uploading more files. If you continue using aboutfile incorrectly, then a warning will be issued. Thank you for reading, and keep contributing.

Ok, But could we possibly use the course previews pictures that i've uploaded for the Mario Kart Wii page for the courses. MarioKartFan4863927 17:31, December 27, 2020 (GMT)

Yes, although it would be better to put them in the individual course's article. (Put them in the "Gallery" section) -- DarkNight  12:36, December 27, 2020 (EST)

Ok, But can you do them whilst i continue doing the other course previews. MarioKartFan4863927 17:41, December 27, 2020 (GMT)

I suggest putting the abbreviated name of the game where the picture was from at the beginning, so it is clearer to other users what variant it is or what game it is from. -- DarkNight  12:48, December 27, 2020 (EST)
Summary
Licensing
game-screenshot

You should copy this and paste it into the upload box, replacing "x" with the course name. Will make editing the file descriptions easier, rather than having to go back and do them.    13:50, December 27, 2020 (EST)
Also, following what DarkNight said, I suggest you putting shorter names for your files. Let me explain myself :

 • BabyPeachTrickingonMushroomGorgeintheMKWiiStaffCredits.png is not a good file name as it is not clear and contain too much useless information
 • MKW Mushroom Gorge Credits Screenshot is a better file name as we understand directly what it is about, and th egame abbreviation is at the beggining.

So try to change your file names now, the arleady uploaded files can be renamed only if you are autoconfirmed.

Your last few uploads were missing categories, please remember to add them for all uploads. Also, you should really list TCRF as a source using aboutfile (as explained above) if you're getting images from there rather than leaving them uncredited.   Mario JC 23:09, January 7, 2021 (EST)

Also, remember to use your images as soon as you upload them, otherwise they'll go unused and other users would have to do it for you, and if there isn't a place for them, they'll be deleted.   Mario JC 23:07, January 17, 2021 (EST)

Files also shouldn't be added to pages if they don't exist. They should be uploaded first.   Mario JC 19:20, January 18, 2021 (EST)

TitlesEdit

Hi, when linking to the articles, we use the SNES, GBA type prefixes before the names, for example, GBA Bowser's Castle 1, not Bowser Castle 1 (GBA) and SNES Mario Circuit 2, not Mario Circuit 2. Also, please make sure the links will link to the correct page, as Battle Course 1 links to the disambiguation page instead, not GBA Battle Course 1. Also, please check if these are correct first, GBA Bowser's Castle 1's music is slightly different from the Mario Kart Wii version, and GBA Battle Course 1 uses the original instead. WildWario (talk) 08:18, November 2, 2021 (EDT)

Ok, I'll change the information on the page, though if you want, you can change it yourself. Thanks for finding an error.  WildWario (talk) 11:11, November 2, 2021 (EDT)

RE: Home video releasesEdit

You don't need to ask permission to create a page. If you think it'd be useful for readers, go ahead and make it.   Mario JC 08:05, December 3, 2023 (EST)

It's no big deal; please don't apologise for making a mistake. Everyone's going to make mistakes and they're going to be fixed by other users (that's the idea of a wiki, after all), and that's how you learn from them.   Mario JC 05:38, December 4, 2023 (EST)

Be sure to take note of the changes made to your past articles. Specifically, there should be relevant navigation template(s) and categories at the bottom of the page, and images don't need to be in "thumbs" when they're in tables (you also capitalised "home" again in the title, but that's fixed now).   Mario JC 07:30, December 5, 2023 (EST)

It's been added.   Mario JC 19:57, December 12, 2023 (EST)

RE: AskingEdit

You can start a proposal on this.   Mario JC 03:49, December 14, 2023 (EST)

"Create a article for (streaming service)"Edit

Whoa, slow go on the proposal making, bro! I believe that the number of ongoing proposals - per user - should be at most three. As for all those streaming service aritcle proposals, I think they should be scratched away; we do not cover non-Super Mario franchise content. Please cancel them now.   PnnyCrygr   09:07, December 14, 2023 (EST)

Whoa there, Sparky, you don't make the rules. I once started 16 TPPs in one go. Also, things like NEC PC-88 have articles, so it's not that much of a stretch. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 09:53, December 14, 2023 (EST)

You don't need to cancel (unless the staff ends up saying you do, in which point they will cancel them automatically). You do, however, need to add support, oppose, and comment sections. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 10:14, December 14, 2023 (EST)

On this note, while we added the support/oppose/comment sections, you still do need to place your votes yourselves. And, y'know, please add those sections in the future! ~Camwoodstock (talk) 14:25, December 14, 2023 (EST)

There is no limit on how many proposals anyone can create at once, even though in this case they are all for the same thing and should have been one proposal for all of it. One more thing you should be aware of is that the deadline date for talk page proposals is always two weeks from the start date.   Nightwicked Bowser   15:00, December 17, 2023 (EST)

Also, use Template:Fake link for the red links, to avoid link overload (see Rule 1). MH :) at 00:17, December 23, 2023 (EST)

RE: AskingEdit

Again, this isn't something I alone just decide; gather opinions from the community through discussion or start another proposal on this. Consider looking through your past proposals as well to see what others were saying and take in their feedback (like, what advice or suggestions did they have?). Also, next time when starting a proposal that concerns a series of articles or proposes a new concept, it should be started on the main MarioWiki:Proposals, not on new talk pages to non-existent articles. You should also have at least a convincing argument as to why you think the page should be created in order to get support from others.   Mario JC 05:51, January 3, 2024 (EST)

You just add your proposal to the appropriate section on the MarioWiki:Proposals page (in this case, under "New features"). The rules at the top of the page provide a guide for how to run one. As for the categories, these would be too small and only have a handful of media in each of them, when categories should have more than that.   Mario JC 04:44, January 4, 2024 (EST)

As I said, you need to provide details and reasons for your proposal if you want to gather support for it, rather than a simple "I think this should be created." Why should the page be created? What would the article look like? etc.   Mario JC 05:27, January 4, 2024 (EST)

RE: Streaming/Digital coversEdit

Depends on what kinds of images they are. If they're just existing artwork or screenshots cropped or edited for the platform, they're unnecessary (especially since they can take many different forms). We previously had to delete a large number of WildBrain thumbnails uploaded by another user just for them being screenshots with the show's logo imprinted on them.   Mario JC 09:26, January 8, 2024 (EST)

Use your best judgement. Don't upload a whole bunch of images that may turn out to be unnecessary and take up storage space on the server. Or if possible, link me the URLs of where you're getting them.   Mario JC 09:57, January 8, 2024 (EST)

Course previewsEdit

A few years ago, you uploaded .gifs of Mario Kart Wii course previews. Now, .apngs are allowed and would look substantially less blurry, so they can be replaced with those. Were those converted from a direct video file in the game's data or from a gameplay capture? Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 18:53, June 5, 2024 (EDT)
