Summary[edit]

File information for SMB Concept art Mario Riding a Cloud 03.png
Info
Description Concept art for Super Mario Bros. on the Famicom that features Mario shooting a projectile while riding a cloud in a sky level. The concept of a sky level was subsequently integrated into Super Mario Bros. 3 (1988) as Sky Land. The side-scrolling shooting level concept was adopted by Nintendo R&D1 in Super Mario Land (1989), but with the player piloting a plane called the Sky Pop instead of a cloud. Nintendo EAD proper eventually integrated this concept in full in Super Mario Maker (2015), but with the player controlling a Koopa Clown Car instead of a cloud.
