Donkey Kong Country Returns HD is an upcoming Nintendo Switch remaster of the Wii game Donkey Kong Country Returns. It was first announced during the Nintendo Direct on June 18, 2024, and is set to be released worldwide on January 16, 2025. The game features all levels from Donkey Kong Country Returns; aspects from the Nintendo 3DS game Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D are also included (i.e. the Cloud levels). It is the second remaster in the Donkey Kong Country series to be released for the Nintendo Switch, following the port of the Wii U game Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, and is the sixth reissue in the series overall. It also utilizes the redesigned logo for the Donkey Kong franchise, first seen with the Nintendo Switch remake of Mario vs. Donkey Kong.

Differences

Gameplay changes

  • It's possible for Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong to have three hearts instead of two.

Graphical changes

  • All characters now have new in-game models. For example, Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong now have new in-game models similar to their Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze in-game models.
