Handcar Havoc is a 2-vs-2 minigame found in Mario Party, Mario Party 2, Mario Party: The Top 100, and Mario Party Superstars.

This minigame has two distinct versions. The first one is seen in Mario Party and Mario Party Superstars, where it is set in a volcanic area. The second one is seen in Mario Party 2 and Mario Party: The Top 100, where it is set in a mountain range.

Gameplay

Two teams have to race using handcars. On a curve, the handcar has to be leaned to the left or right so that it continues without losing speed. In Mario Party and Mario Party Superstars, leaning too much results in the team falling down into the lava, after which that team is out for the rest of the minigame. If both teams fall, the minigame ends in a draw. However, it is not possible to fall off the track in Mario Party 2 and The Top 100 (despite the former's Advice section in the rules suggesting players can). The first team to reach the end wins.

In Mario Party and Mario Party 2, if five minutes pass, the minigame ends in a draw. In Mario Party: The Top 100 and Mario Party Superstars, this will happen if three minutes pass.

In Mario Party 2 and Mario Party: The Top 100, there is a jump halfway through the track. In Mario Party 2, when a team is approaching the jump, "SPEED UP!" appears onscreen; depending on whether or not the team is at maximum speed after clearing the jump, "GOOD!" or "MISS" appears.
