Crate and Peril is a 1-vs.-3 minigame in Mario Party 6 and Mario Party: The Top 100. Its name is a pun on the name of the retail store Crate & Barrel.
Overview[edit]
The solo player chases the group players into a room with a stage, shrinking and sucking them into a box.
The solo player's objective is to tilt the box around and eliminate the group players by tilting the Spiny Shells into them. There are four small tan dividers in the box that act as walls for the group players and Spiny Shells. These dividers can be in different angles and distances from each other per game, with four different formations. The group players must survive for 30 seconds with at least one of them remaining in order to win.
The solo player can easily defeat the team of players if they pressure any member of a team to a corner of the box and eliminate them with two Spiny Shells, separated by the dividers, that block any means of escape. Since team members themselves can block each other, the solo player is advised to try to target more adept teammates as they are more restricted in their movement. Meanwhile, the team relies on the open center area, even in layouts where the layouts are positioned closer to the center, while anticipating the movement of the box, to weave between the Spiny Shells and avoid being cornered and eliminated.
