The Monster is a buggy-type rally car used by Mario and Luigi in Famicom Grand Prix II: 3D Hot Rally. Its design is close to that of a Volkswagen Beetle.

The Monster served as a basis for the Tiny Titan kart in Mario Kart Wii. Subsequently, the Monster tires in Mario Kart 7, Mario Kart 8 / Deluxe and Mario Kart Tour were also based on and inspired by the tire design on the Monster.

History[edit]

The Monster is one of three cars in Famicom Grand Prix II: 3D Hot Rally. It is slower than the other two car types, the Kattobi and the Yonque, on highway and grass but it has more durability. It handles much better and faster on rougher terrains like sand and dirt. Its top speed is 180 kilometers per hour.

Super Mario Bros. & Friends: When I Grow Up[edit]

The Monster makes a cameo on the "Race Car Driver / Mechanic" page in Super Mario Bros. & Friends: When I Grow Up. It is shown with Mario and Luigi driving it towards a Rocky Wrench.

Super Smash Bros. series[edit]

The Monster makes a few cameo appearances in the Super Smash Bros. series. In Super Smash Bros. Melee, Monster is a trophy which can be obtained in the Lottery or if it appears in one of the single-player modes. In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Monster is featured as a sticker, and in Adventure Mode: The Subspace Emissary, it can be applied to any fighter to raise their launch resistance by four points. In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Monster appears as a Novice-class support spirit that occupies one support slot and makes stopping easier when walking or running during a battle. The spirit's puppet fighters are Roy, Wendy, Iggy and Morton all giant, on the Mushroomy Kingdom stage.

This rally car tore up dirt and raced through uncharted lands in the Disk System game 3D Hot Rally. While it wasn't as fast as the other two car types, it had super-strong shocks to deal with horrible roads and other obstacles. Mario and Luigi are in command of this car, although they don't show themselves in the game very often.
