World 3-1 is the first level of World 3 in New Super Mario Bros. 2. The level is mainly made up of hills of sand. Cheep Cheeps that jump out of the water first appear here. This is the only beach-themed level on the main path of World 3 that does not take place underwater.

Layout[edit]

The player begins on an orange platform at a beach. A ? Block containing a Super Leaf can be found here. Floating Barrels follow, which sinks when Mario is on it for too long. A Gold Ring appears here, which make coins follow behind Cheep Cheeps. More Cheep Cheeps follow, along with several more barrels. A row of Brick Blocks can then be found, one of them containing a ? Switch which makes coins to be released from a green Warp Pipe above. Another is a multi-coin block. Another hill of sand follows, along with the checkpoint. Rotating platforms and Piranha Plants begin to appear. Another Gold Ring can be found on several orange platforms, along with more jumping Cheep Cheeps. After that, two ? Blocks appear, one of them having a Super Leaf. Following that is another set of rotating platforms with a Piranha Plant on one of them. A Roulette Coin Block can be found above a pipe with a Piranha Plant in it. Another pipe to the left of it leads to an underwater area with a Cheep Cheep and a ? Switch that releases coins from yellow Warp Pipes. One last Gold Ring appears, with more Cheep Cheeps along the way. Finally, a green Warp Pipe leads out of the area. In the last area, there are stone platforms and several more Cheep Cheeps which can help Mario reach the top of the Goal Pole not far away.

Star Coins[edit]

Image Location
Where to find a Star Coin This Star Coin can be seen above three floating Barrels after the first Gold Ring. The player will need to hop off a Cheep Cheep to reach it.
Where to find a Star Coin Immediately after the checkpoint, the player should see a Piranha Plant beside several Brick Blocks and a ? Block with a Fire Flower above the rotating platforms. When the Piranha Plant returns to its pipe, Mario needs to wall kick off the pipe to find a hidden alcove with the Star Coin.
Where to find a Star Coin When Mario reaches the Roulette Coin Block, he should stand on the barrel on the right of the pipe below it. The barrel will drop and reveal the Star Coin.
