Luigi Rescue Operation

Appears in Super Mario Party Jamboree
Type Showdown minigame

Luigi Rescue Operation[1] is a Showdown minigame in Super Mario Party Jamboree. It is centered around Luigi, and it has four players solving puzzles in order to save him. It is inspired by the Luigi's Mansion series. Like other Showdown minigames, this minigame cannot be played in the Mario Party mode if Luigi is an active player character, though he can still be used in this minigame in Minigame Bay modes.

Introduction[edit]

Luigi and the four players enter a haunted mansion. Suddenly, a cage falls on top of Luigi and carries him away, while the four players look on in shock. Then, four doors open, and the four players walk in to start the minigame.

Gameplay[edit]

This minigame has four players traversing a mansion through nine different rooms. The players need to solve various puzzles and be the first one to reach Luigi and rescue him.

The first and fifth rooms have the players assembling a painting on the wall from various canvases.

The second and sixth rooms feature various matching statues, and the players have to select the one that does not have a matching pair.

The third and seventh rooms have the players stepping on various tiles in a certain order. The correct order is displayed on the wall in front of them.

The fourth and eighth rooms have the players pushing barrels in order to clear a path to the next room. If a player needs to start over, they can press Single Joy-Con Bottom Button to reset all the barrels. These rooms play similarly to Hotel Goomba from Mario Party 5.

The ninth and final room has the players memorizing an order of patterns on the ground and typing the correct coordinates into a typewriter in order to unlock the door and save Luigi. When a player reaches this room, the music becomes faster.

If a player is having trouble with a certain puzzle, they can check the television, and Luigi will give them a hint.

In the Mario Party mode, the player who encountered Luigi on the board first to trigger the minigame has the first room's puzzle solved as an advantage.[2]

The first player to clear all nine rooms wins the minigame and receives Luigi as a Jamboree Buddy.

Ending[edit]

In the Mario Party mode and Party-Planner Trek, Luigi exits the room he was trapped in, while the player who saved him sighs in relief. In Free Play, the player(s) simply enter(s) the room instead, though nothing more is shown from this.

Controls[edit]

Trivia[edit]

  • This minigame is one of the only two Showdown minigames where the respective Jamboree Buddy does not do their "character selected" pose when the minigame's title shows up: In Luigi's case, he shivers in fear. The other one is Jr.'s Jauntlet, where Bowser Jr. simply does a quick celebration.
    • The minigame title is also unique in that it consists of black text on a white bar (as opposed to vice versa in other Showdown minigames) and its letters shake.
