“It looks like allies stick around for three turns. Pretty handy, huh? But watch out! If an opponent passes you, your ally will go with them. So keep your eyes peeled, and don't let anyone pass you!”
Toad, Super Mario Party Jamboree

Jamboree Buddies are characters who assist a character in Super Mario Party Jamboree, with 10 of the 22 playable characters having this role. When a character encounters a Jamboree Buddy on the board, a Showdown minigame linked to the Jamboree Buddy begins, wherein the character who activates it has a slight advantage at the start. If a tie occurs, the player who rolls the highest in the following "Tie-Break Dice" event earns the Jamboree Buddy.

On boards, each Jamboree Buddy has their own unique ability and cause all board actions to occur twice, such as gaining or losing coins, purchasing items or Stars, and even Boos and Bowser Spaces. When obtained, the Jamboree Buddy leaves after two turns, meaning they are only around for three turns total. Similarly, if no character reaches the Jamboree Buddy within three turns, that Jamboree Buddy leaves.[1] An opponent can steal the Jamboree Buddy from the player who has them by passing them, making them their ally instead.[2]

A Jamboree Buddy will only appear if they are not already one of the four board participants, so under normal circumstances a character cannot participate in their own Showdown minigame. In Free Play, Showdown Minigame Battle, online matchmaking, and Party-Planner Trek, if one of the player characters are a Jamboree Buddy, a monochrome imposter of that Jamboree Buddy will take their place in the respective Showdown minigame.

In Jamboree TV, Jamboree Buddies will not appear in Tag Team Rules.

Notes[edit]

  • Much like the Ally mechanic in Super Mario Party:
    • Mario and Luigi do not have dialogue when approached, due to them being mostly silent protagonists. Instead, the Toad host speaks for them.
    • Yoshi talks by saying his own name, and Donkey Kong talks in monkey noises. Translations are provided in parentheses for both of them.
    • Bowser Jr. has unique dialogue if recruited by Mario or Bowser. Wario and Yoshi also have unique dialogue if recruited by Mario.
  • If a Jamboree Buddy is recruited twice in a single game of Mario Party and a different player wins their minigame each time, the Jamboree Buddy will hold two flags, one for each player who recruited them.
  • If Luigi's Jamboree Buddy ability successfully maxes out the roll of a multi-dice item, the player still gets the coin bonus for rolling all the same number.
