The level begins with a symmetrical trio of Pipes with Piranha Plants and islands, with the left and right islands having red Koopa Troopas and two ? Blocks above them. To the right are three rows of Brick Blocks with Fighter Flies atop the middle row and a Buzzy Beetle on the ground, and a powerup and Starman hidden in the upper and middle rows of bricks. After this is a staircase of ground with a pair of green Koopa Troopas, a Bill Blaster, and two Sidesteppers that leads to a pool of water containing two Bloobers and a pipe housing a Piranha Plant. In the leftmost side of the pool is a Hidden Block containing a 1-Up Mushroom. After the pool is a very large pit with three rows of three Cloud Blocks Mario must jump across, before leaping to an arrangement of rows of Brick Blocks with occasional pits beneath, guarded by a red Koopa Troopa, three Little Goombas, and a Green Koopa Paratroopa. Underneath the second row of Brick Blocks is another hidden block below a Coin Block, while inside a single Brick Block directly below the Green Koopa Paratroopa is another powerup. Underneath the third row of Brick Blocks is a pipe containing a Piranha Plant. After this is an open stretch of ground leading to a Hammer Brother. To the right is a pit, and one final large pit with three pairs of Hard Blocks Mario must jump across to reach the flagpole.
