World 7-1 is the first level of World 7 in Super Mario Bros. Special. It is primarily an overworld stage, with many similarities to World 7-1 from the original Super Mario Bros..
The level begins with three columns of Turtle Cannons, guarded by a Buzzy Beetle and Green Koopa Paratroopa, with some ? Blocks high above with a Warp Pipe housing a Piranha Plant on top of them. To the right of the middle column of Turtle Cannons is a Hidden Block that allows Mario to reach the top of the ? Blocks and enter the Warp Pipe. By entering the Warp Pipe, Mario will enter a hidden underground area sectioned off into two floors, emerging onto the lower floor, which has many Coins and ends with a Pipe that takes Mario towards the very end of the level. If Mario does not enter the Pipe and continues forward, to the right is a row of five ? Blocks with a Green Koopa Troopa and three Little Goombas beneath them. To the right of these are four more columns of Turtle Cannons spaced out beside them, also protected by a Green Koopa Paratroopa and a Buzzy Beetle, but with one Turtle Cannon atop a Hard Block next to some Brick Blocks, which hide a Coin Block to the immediate right of the Turtle Cannon. After this is a pit with a Pipe containing a Piranha Plant on the other side, followed by two rows of Brick Blocks with a pair of Hammer Brothers on top of both rows. To the right is another Turtle Cannon, two Pipes with Piranha Plants inside, a Green Koopa Troopa between the Pipes, and a column of Turtle Cannons stacked on top of each other.
If Mario enters the Pipe to the left of the Koopa Troopa, he will be taken to the upper floor of the aforementioned hidden underground area, which has fewer coins but leads to another Pipe that transports Mario near the end of the level. After an empty Pipe is another pair of rows of Brick Blocks with two Hammer Brothers, one on the middle row and one on the ground, blocking a pit with Hard Blocks and a Turtle Cannon on the other side. Past the Turtle Cannon are two Buzzy Beetles beside a jumping board, which is beside a large pit with floating Hard Blocks above water, with two Green Koopa Paratroopas towards the end. After this is a staircase of Hard Blocks with Barrels rolling down it, with a bridge of Brick Blocks in the middle of it. Underneath the Brick Blocks is the Pipe that Mario emerges from if he enters the secret area, and beside the Brick Blocks are two other Brick Blocks; one contains a powerup, and the other contains a 1-Up Mushroom. After the Hard Block staircase is a brief pit of water with a Coin Block off its edge and the flagpole.
