Hedgehogs are species of animals found mostly in the Real World, and on Mushroom World as special species who often acts like enemies, or speedy rivals like Sonic, who often reside on Earth. Porcupos are the first Hedgehog species seen in the Mario series.

Hedgehogs are enemies in the game Donkey Kong on the Game Boy. They make their first appearance in world 8-2 in the Rocky-Valley. Just like Dotties, they walk around the environment in circles, walking up walls and on ceilings in the process. Unlike Dotties, however, they kill Mario if he touches them. They can walk at different speeds. Throwing the key at them does not hurt them.
