The 'Shroom:Issue 190/Fun Stuff
Director's Notes
Greetings, beautiful 'Shroom readers! Welcome to this fresh 2023 edition of Fun Stuff! After what felt like a year of consistent energy, reevaluation, and trial and error, we emerge out the other side, victorious. That's right! New year, new me, same preparing Fun-Stuff-the-night-before-upload!
Thankfully, what has felt refreshing is this quarter of my college experience. Intellectually stimulating classes that aren't full of copious assignments and workloads? Perish the thought! On top of the other subjects, je fais du français - I'm learning French! If I somehow butchered that phrase, then I will be hearing from Ninja Squid (talk) about it very shortly.
Plus, just a day after this issue's release, it will be my two-year anniversary with my girlfriend! I'm so thrilled to share so much time with her, and I hope to share so much more moving forward. Yes it's gushy and cute and ew and also I'm the director and I get to share what I want to, so there!
There's not much more to say to you all. I hope you're getting through that winter weather, and if you're struggling right now, know that brighter days are always ahead. Take care of yourselves for the rest of January, and in the meantime, enjoy everything this chilly Fun Stuff has in store for you!
Section of the Month
Congratulations to WildWario (talk) and FunkyK38 (talk) for their tied first-place scoring! Extra congrats also extend to Waluigi Time (talk) for placing third. Thank you to everyone who voted last month, and make sure to vote yet again this month! Woo voting!

Anagrams
Written by: BBQ Turtle (talk)
Hello all, welcome to the first issue of anagrams for 2023! This month, I've put together a set of anagrams based on Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem!. If you fancy suggesting a game- or anything really- that I could use as a theme, it'd be great to hear from you on my talk page or in a PM to me on the forums. And with that out of the way, it's time to wind down with some anagrams!
How it works...
Basically, this puzzle consists of solving the anagrams. Each month has a specific theme, which will give you a clue about what sort of words or phrases the anagrams will be. I've also included the boxes that the anagrams will fit into, so you'll be able to tell how many words it will solve to be and how many letters will be in each word, which should give you a hand too. You'll also notice that within each set of boxes, one of the squares are yellow. As you solve each anagram, note down the letter which appears in the yellow squares, and if you can solve all of the anagrams, you'll also get a bonus anagram to solve from completing all of the others. I've included the letter configuration for this one at the bottom too, just to give you an extra helping hand. Best of luck!
1. RIDGED ERR
2. ALL OSTRICHES
3. OXIDE ROT
4. ME KNOT
5. MID RIM OCARINA
6. I MAIN LINEUP
7. CON CONE VAN
8. NO PULP RECOVERY
9. ALL WIFI FRESHENER
10. CORSAGE TESTER
11. MY TANKER GAPS
Bonus anagram:

- Exit Door
- M-Token
- Mini Mario Card
- Mini Pauline

Word Search
Written by: Mustard Machine (talk)
Hello, word enthusiasts, and welcome to another exciting Word Search, Fun Stuff's premier word-finding activity. This month's Word Search is all about Wario Land 4, a perfectly fine Game Boy Advance game that some people (Turb) rave about like it's the second coming of Super Mario Bros. 3. Me personally, I think it's a just fine game. It's probably my third favorite Wario Land game behind Wario Land 2 and Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3. Anyway, in this month's puzzle, words can be found horizontally, vertically, diagonally, and inside of other words. As always have fun and stay safe!
Hiding Koopa
Written by: Waluigi Time (talk)
Hello there, 'Shroom readers, and a happy 2023 to you! While I was thinking of what to do for Hiding Koopa this month, I remembered that this year marks the 10th anniversary of the Year of Luigi, an event that was apparently such a financial disaster for Nintendo that they decided to never do anything like it ever again and proceeded to punish the green-clad plumber by throwing him into haunted mansions, hotels, castles etc. for the rest of time. On that note, there are five Koopas hidden in this art from New Super Luigi U! Can you find them?
Thanks for playing! Did you find them all?
Poetry Puzzle

What came first is gone
Somewhere over the first year
Answers forgotten
Translation: Hello, The ‘Shroom readers! Let me explain how this works. I recite a poem, then YOU search for clues and try to figure out the poem’s subject! Let’s get started!
Guess the Character!
What makes one is five
Battling atop sunset
Lifting all the coal
Guess the Location!
High above the clouds
Striking golf balls with metal
Praying none will fall
Guess the Object!
Prized among the kings
Legendary Artifact
Sinking into abyss
We shall part till next
Together again someday
Best of hopes till then
Translation: See you next time!
Where in the Marioverse is Carmen Sandiego?
Each issue, you will be given a case to solve and clues to use to help you find the solution! Use your Mario knowledge to crack the case!
You will begin each case at the scene of the crime, and you will be given three clues from passerby as to where the next hot spot is and what game it’s from. Using your knowledge of Mario games and the Super Mario Wiki, figure out where the crook is and go track them down! There are four locations each round: the crime scene (1) at the start, two locations (2 and 3) with clues, and the hideout for the crook of the month (4). Answers for locations will be given with the corresponding round, for example, the clues from the crime scene will lead you to location 2, and once you open the spoiler bubbles for location 2, you will be given the correct answer. You can open the clues for each location in any order you’d like, but be careful! You may encounter an incorrect clue that could throw you off the case!
Clues offered will give you a hint either about the next location or the game it’s in. Unlike a regular Carmen Sandiego game, you do not have to collect information about the crook you are tracking down.
Challenge round (optional):
-Find all locations and games correctly in two minutes or less
-Find all locations and games correctly without using the rest of the Wiki for help
“Gumshoe, this show cannot go on! Pauline has reported to us that her beloved microphone has been snatched by one of Carmen’s crooked cronies. Pauline’s microphone and stand have become as iconic to her as her tissues, purse, and parasol in recent years, stemming from her superstar performance in Super Mario Odyssey. Since then, her audio equipment has appeared as recently as her appearance in Mario Strikers: Battle League, meaning that this loss is drastic for her. We need you to get to work to bag the thief and find the mic! Quickly, before her big appearances are cancelled!”

HIDEOUT ANSWER: Gusty Gulch from Paper Mario
"You did it, gumshoe! Thanks to your dedicated tracking and sleuthing, we managed to catch our thief as she was hanging on to a tree at Gusty Gulch with all her might. With a name like "Gusty Gulch", you would think that she would have expected the wind, but I suppose not. Either way, she is behind bars, and Pauline has her microphone back! She's celebrating by holding a surprise concert in New Donk City, and she's sent you a front row ticket, along with a signed photo. She's very grateful to you gumshoe. We've gotten you a frame for the photo and have left it on your desk. Go enjoy the show, gumshoe, we'll hold down the fort here- until it's time for your next case!"

Starting from this issue, two of the songs will be "Returning Songs", which are songs that have appeared in previous issues. There's no specific theme, so try your best to get all of the questions right.

Trivia
Written by: Mustard Machine (talk)
By the time you read this Christmas will have passed. So many presents, so little time. Did you know?
- That Tetris Attack is a reskin of a Japanese puzzle game called Panel De Pon?
- That the minigame Beach Volley Folly was Bowser’s only playable appearance in the Mario Party series until Mario Party 10?
- That Toads and Toad Houses were originally going to appear in Super Mario World?
- That John Quincy Adams is the only person to have served in the House of Representatives after being President?
- That Enguarde and Squawks are the only Animal Buddies to appear in all three of the original Donkey Kong Country games?
- That in Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2, collecting all of the Dragon Coins causes them to be replaced in the levels by coins with Princess Peach's face?
- That in Diddy Kong Racing DS, Banjo and Conker were replaced by Tiny Kong and Dixie Kong?
- That despite being named Tiny Kong, Tiny Kong is actually taller than her sister Dixie Kong?
