Upon The Waves!
"What an exciting opportunity," you think to yourself as you watch the waves splash against the hull of the boat. A few weeks ago, you were just another generic Toad writer at The 'Shroom, New Wikisburg's number-one newspaper. Though you had tried your best, you found it hard to get noticed while placed up against such talented writers as Legend 8, writer of The Sorcery Show, MarioMorty and his Crosswords, and GPM1000 and his chronicles of Mario releases in Mario Calendar. It was quite a surprise to all the writers when you, of all people, were invited to join the staff on a journey to Rogueport to do some on-the-scene reporting. You had thought about declining, but you realized this was your chance to truly make your mark on the paper and get noticed.
Taking in the ocean's majesty from the upper decks of the ship ferrying you and the staff to Rogueport, you take a look around at all of your traveling companions. You see…
- Shoey
- The current Shroom Director and a Shoe Goomba well-known around the offices for constantly rambling on about old politicians nobody has ever heard of and 80s wrestling.
- Meta Knight
- The current Sub-Director, a stern Koopatrol who, as far as you can tell, does all the real work while Shoey loafs around reading dusty books.
- Waluigi Time
- A lanky Craw who runs Fake News. You recall always seeing him in a hurry around the offices, writing various 'Shroom sections or making disgusting culinary creations.
- Anton (AKA Hypnotoad)
- A stylish Magikoopa with impeccable taste in both fashion and food, perfectly-suited for running Critic Corner. You can't recall a time you've seen him without a magically-conjured glass of milk nearby!
- Hooded Pitohui
- Former Shroom Director and current Strategy Wing Director. Although he's a Swooper, he has some strange habits, preferring to sleep during the night instead of the day…
- Roserade
- The cheerful Bub-ulb who runs Fun Stuff. Chatting with Hooded Pitohui on the ship's bow, they seem very excited for the various adventures they plan to have!
- FunkyK38
- The fluffy Kirby in charge of Palette Swap. Earlier today, when you were boarding at Toad Harbor, you had overheard her talking about some big plans, but she seems to be keeping them under wraps.
- Zange
- The only human of the crew and long-time Pipe Plaza Director. You haven't seen them around the offices much, but you have heard K-Pop music coming out of their personal office sometimes. From what you can gather, they're nice, but strangely quiet.
"Wow, with these crewmates, I'm sure to find the perfect hit section," you think to yourself. If you can use this trip to find a story and write an article that will impress one of these 'Shroom legends, that'll be your ticket to the top!
Letting your thoughts wander away from work, you start thinking about what kind of place Rogueport is. You've heard rumors that it's a pretty seedy place, a city full of crime and swindlers. Hmm, perhaps you should have done a little research on this place before agreeing to come…? Oh, well, there is no time to dwell on it now!
You hear Shoey call out "LAND HO!" and you look out upon the horizon, seeing an Island in the distance. That must be it! That must be Rogueport! Your adventure starts now!
