Masterpieces in Super Smash Bros. Brawl are trial versions of Nintendo games, which are from the NES, SNES and Nintendo 64. Each of these demos have different time limits during which the player can play before they are returned to the Masterpiece selection menu. The player can press HOME Button at any time when playing a Masterpiece to access the HOME menu and select "Operations Guide" to read the guide and know how to play the game. Players can play the NES Masterpieces using any controller, but the SNES and Nintendo 64 Masterpieces require only the Wii Classic Controller or Nintendo GameCube Controller to play. Some of the Masterpieces are available at the start of the game, while some are unlockable. Only two of the Masterpieces listed below - Fire Emblem: Monshō no Nazo and EarthBound (known as Mother 2 in Japan) - are exclusive to Japanese versions of Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

Masterpieces will return in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, which will also include third-party games Pac-Man and Mega Man 2, Game Boy games such as Kirby's Dream Land and Dr. Mario, as well as EarthBound for all regions. One NES Masterpiece, Fire Emblem: Ankoku Ryū to Hikari no Ken, is exclusive to Japan, as it was the only region in which the original game was released. The demo times are also longer compared to those of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, with each one lasting for at least two minutes at a time. SNES Masterpieces are compatible with the Wii U GamePad, the Wii U Pro Controller, and the Classic Controller, while NES and Game Boy Masterpieces are compatible with the aforementioned controllers as well as the Wii Remote. Players are also given the option to purchase the full games on the Nintendo eShop via the Masterpieces menu.

Donkey Kong

The player can only play the 75m stage. This Masterpiece is unlocked if the game is powered on for more than 10 hours.

Ice Climber

The Ice Climber Masterpiece.

Time Length: 0:40
The player starts off on Stage 2 rather than from the beginning of the game.

Super Mario Bros.

The Kid Icarus Masterpiece.

The player can only play the first section of the Underworld stage.

Super Mario Bros. 2

The Super Mario Bros. 2 Masterpiece.

Time Length: 1:30
The player can only play as Princess Toadstool in World 1-1. This Masterpiece is unlocked if the player wins as Peach five times in brawls.

Super Mario World

The Super Mario World Masterpiece.

Time Length: 2:00
The player can only play in the second level, Yoshi's Island 2, in Super Mario World. This Masterpiece is unlocked by playing three matches on the Melee Yoshi's Island stage.

F-Zero

The F-Zero Masterpiece.

Time Length: 0:40
The player can only race in the Mute City course. This Masterpiece is unlocked by having Captain Falcon join the player's team in the Subspace Emissary.

Kirby's Adventure

The Kirby's Adventure Masterpiece.

Time Length: 2:00
The player starts off on the first stage of Vegetable Valley without the stage introduction screen.

Fire Emblem: Monshō no Nazo (Japan only)

The player can choose between two files, both of which lead to the two fights against Ridley. Japanese subtitles can be set for North American versions of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, whereas German or French subtitles can be set for PAL versions.

Samus A

The first file leads to the beginning of the game, where Samus fights Ridley for the first time in Ceres Station before he flees with the Metroid Hatchling and activates a self-destruct sequence.

Samus B

The second file leads to a save point in the depths of Norfair, where Ridley is battled a second time. Unlike in the first file, it is possible to defeat Ridley.

EarthBound (Mother 2) (Japan only)

The EarthBound (Mother 2) Masterpiece.

Star Fox 64

The Star Fox 64 Masterpiece.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

The player can choose between two different save files which show different aspects of the actual game. This Masterpiece is unlocked by playing as Toon Link ten times.

Save File 1

If the first save file is chosen, the player will be Young Link and start in his tree house. Outside it, Young Link can walk around Kokiri Forest and talk to the other Kokiris. There are two other areas of interest to visit before the five minute time limit is up as well - these are the Deku Tree and The Lost Woods.

Save File 2

In this version, the player will play as normal Link. The player have a much wider world to explore this time, and will start in the Temple of Time after Link has found the Master Sword.
