The Mushroom Cup (transliterated as Kinoko Cup on one occasion)[1] is a cup that commonly appears as the first and easiest cup in the Mario Kart series, usually featuring only new courses. It is similar to the Shell Cup, which is usually the first cup with returning courses. It is represented by a Dash Mushroom. In Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, the Mushroom Cup is one of four cups to be themed around a Mushroom, alongside the Golden Dash Cup, the Propeller Cup, and the Rock Cup.

In Mario Kart World, the Mushroom Cup mostly takes place within the world's mesa region, and is mirrored by the Golden Rally in Knockout Tour.

Mario Tennis series[edit]

The Mushroom Cup is the first and usually only unlocked cup in the Mario Tennis series (with the exception of Mario Power Tennis, where the Fire Cup is also unlocked by default). In singles, it features an eight players bracket with computer opponents in the lowest difficulty. In Mario Tennis and Mario Power Tennis, the cup takes place on a Hard Court. In Mario Tennis Open, it is played on the Mushroom Valley court. In Mario Tennis Aces and Mario Tennis Fever, the cup takes place on a Grass Court. In all games up to Mario Tennis Aces, the first two rounds in the Mushroom Cup consist of one set of two games each, while the final round consists of three sets of two games. In Mario Tennis Fever, all three rounds are made up of one set of two games each.

Unlockables[edit]

In every Mario Tennis game, completing the Mushroom Cup unlocks the Flower Cup. In Mario Power Tennis, playable characters Fly Guy and Paratroopa are unlocked by winning all World Open cups (Mushroom Cup, Flower Cup and Star Cup) in singles and in doubles, respectively. In Mario Tennis Fever, playable characters Baby Mario and Baby Luigi are unlocked by winning the singles and doubles Mushroom Cup, respectively.

Super Mario Strikers[edit]

The Mushroom Cup appears as the first cup in the Cup Battles mode in Super Mario Strikers. In this game, the cup is a tournament between four teams and with three rounds, using a table system. If the player places in the top three, the Flower Cup and Konga Coliseum stadium are unlocked. The game also features the Super Mushroom Cup, a longer version of the Mushroom Cup.

Mario Hoops 3-on-3[edit]

Mario Hoops 3-on-3 features the Mushroom Tourney, which is similar to Mushroom Cups in other sports games.

Mario Sports Mix[edit]

In Mario Sports Mix, the Mushroom Cup is the first cup to be played in the tournament modes of each of the game's sports. It is composed of three rounds, each of which takes place in a different court. The courts available vary depending on the sport played.

Sport First round Second round Third round
Basketball Mario Stadium Koopa Troopa Beach DK Dock
Volleyball / Dodgeball Mario Stadium Koopa Troopa Beach Peach's Castle

Alternate routes[edit]

The Mushroom Cup features two alternate routes, one on either side of the bracket. Between them, there are around 15 different challenges per sport. Alternate routes can be accessed after winning the Mushroom Cup for the first time.
