Tanooki Mario activating a Tail Wheel

Tail Wheels[1] are objects in Super Mario 3D Land. Tail Wheels are wooden wheels that appear on top of some platforms, and when tail-whipped by Tanooki Mario, they rotate, causing the platform to ascend, allowing the player to reach a new area of the level. They are replaced by Cat Wheels in Super Mario 3D World.

A Tail Wheel also appears in Mario's Figure Skating Spectacular in Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games, where the skaters use it by performing a spin to return to Peach's Castle.
