Chickens[1][2] are helmet-clad war birds kept by Tatanga and enemies in Super Mario Land. They soar through the final level of the game aiding Biokinton, in the Chai Kingdom (World 4-3). They are also shot out by the shy cloud Biokinton. A Chicken can damage Mario by soaring at him. Defeating a chicken earns the player extra 400 points.

In the Super Mario Land manga, Chickens only appear during Biokinton's battle. The boss releases them onto Mario, but they just perch on the Sky Pop without attacking. Furious at his useless minions, Tatanga takes off with the Pagosu and shoots at Mario, hitting and killing Biokinton in the process and scaring the Chickens away.
