Blue Twirlers, also known as smashers,[1] are the third species of normal ghosts Luigi encounters in Luigi's Mansion and its remake. They are one of the slowest, largest, heaviest and most powerful non-portrait ghosts found in the mansion. These ghosts try to damage Luigi by using their over-sized fists to make shock waves that spread around; 10 HP is lost if they hit Luigi. They have 30 HP each (45 in the PAL and 3DS Hidden Mansion). Though Blue Twirlers do not appear in any later installments of the Luigi's Mansion series, Slammers from Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, and Hammers from Luigi's Mansion 3 behave similarly to them.
Blue Twirlers make a few minor appearances in other games of the Super Mario franchise. In Mario Power Tennis, a Blue Twirler occasionally appears in the Luigi's Mansion Court. In Mario Super Sluggers, Blue Twirlers are found in the Luigi's Mansion stadium, where they stun fielders that run into the graves that the Blue Twirlers reside within. As well as the standard blue variety, the Ghost K minigame that takes place in this stadium features red, yellow, and green Blue Twirlers.
In Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, a Blue Twirler is depicted alongside a Gold Ghost and a Purple Puncher in a trophy.
