Watermelon Seed Spitting Contest is a Mini Battle featured in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and its reissue. A Yoshi and a Bandit must spit watermelon projectiles at each other. The minigame starts with the Yoshi next to a watermelon on a pot. The player can swallow a green watermelon and spit out seeds. The Bandit now has a Yoshi mask on, so the Bandit can spit seeds as well. The Yoshi must spit the seeds at the Bandit, which hides behind walls. At random, a red watermelon may come up, and it can severely damage the opponent. If the Yoshi wins the minigame, he gets a Super Green Watermelon, Super Red Watermelon, or Super Blue Watermelon item card at random. Using the cheat code to access the Bandit minigames from the world map unlocks a two-player variation of the minigame.
This Mini Battle can be played behind the locked door of the shack in the stage The Cave Of The Mystery Maze. In the GBA version, there is another found in Scary Skeleton Goonies!, replacing Popping Balloons.
