Rayman is the main protagonist of Ubisoft's Rayman franchise, debuting in the 1995 video game Rayman. The 2006 video game Rayman Raving Rabbids spawned its own Rabbids series which would eventually crossover with the Super Mario franchise in the Nintendo Switch titles Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle and Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope. Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle did not feature an appearance from Rayman, though he does appear in Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope as a playable character in the Rayman in the Phantom Show DLC.[1]

On September 10, 2022, Rayman was confirmed to be released as a playable character in Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope in the eponymous Rayman in the Phantom Show expansion pack.[1] Rayman receives a golden ticket inviting him to the Space Opera Network, where he is attacked by a Stooge, before meeting Rabbid Peach, Rabbid Mario, and Beep-0, with whom he teams up to defeat a large amount of enemies that ambush them. Throughout the game, Beep-0 refers to Rayman as "Mr. Eggplant" due to Rayman exclaiming "egads!" while introducing himself.

After the enemy battle, Rayman realizes that Rabbid Peach and Rabbid Mario are heroes, and forms an alliance with them and Beep-0. The Phantom then arrives and claims that he has changed for the better, while he was under the influence of the Megabug back in Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle. He then asks the heroes to help with the sets to boost the Space Opera Network's popularity. The heroes then set out to the Western, Pirate and Medieval sets and improve them.

After the group helps out in all of the sets, the Phantom asks them to join him for the wrap party. Upon arriving, the heroes realize that the Phantom has not changed his mean ways and was secretly plotting revenge against them for his humiliation back in Spooky Trails. Rayman, Rabbid Peach and Rabbid Mario defeat the Phantom and stop his plot.

Rabbid Peach, Rabbid Mario and Beep-0 find that a nearby warp portal can take them home. Rayman decides to stay back in the Space Opera Network to help the Rabbids working there, and says goodbye to his new friends. He and Rabbid Peach exchange gifts, and part ways. In photos shown after the credits, it is revealed that Rayman's gift to him was a prop of Rabbid Mario's hat and ears, while the others received a copy of Rayman's outfit, whom all the heroes see.

Rayman wields the Blaster, which shoots a single projectile at an enemy and, when upgraded, has a chance to give him a random item when an enemy is defeated. His technique is Plunger Guard, where he summons two (three when upgraded) plunger guards that attack a moving enemy within their radius. They can be picked up and thrown. Although he is not able to equip Sparks, he has two unique forms that he can turn into: the Vortex costume and the Rocket costume. The Vortex costume allows him to use the Vortex Pull ability, which draws in enemies with a tornado. His Blaster and Plunger Guards will also gain the vortex effect, which will make enemies bounce away when hit, similar to Splash and Bounce. The Vortex costume will also give Rayman a passive ability of 30% damage reduction. The Rocket costume allows him to use Rocket Ride, where he rides on a controllable rocket that can hit enemies and explode when detonated or when the ability ends. When it explodes, Rayman will return to his original location with the artwork showing the Rayman riding the rocket to be a hologram while the real Rayman stays where he is. His Blaster and Plunger Guards' attacks will cause an explosion around the enemy, similar to Bowser's Bowzooka. The Rocket costume gives Rayman the passive ability to be resistant from all Super Effects. He is also the only hero to have the ability to hook on a Flying Ring, which allows Rayman to fly temporarily. Normally, there will be mulitple Flying Rings in a battle, so Rayman will be able to move around the battlefield easily by hooking onto them.

Memory bio[edit]

RAYMAN
Image for Rayman Memory in Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope

This Rayman character is fascinating indeed. He has hands, but no arms - at least none that I can see. He has feet, but no legs. He has different costumes, each of which enhances his fighting abilities in various ways. Rayman came to the Space Opera Network the same way we did - by invitation. However, he is far less trusting of our circumstance - probably just nerves brought on by stage fright.
