A Preying Mantas is a Jellyfish found in the waters in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. They move up and down in a small area, and therefore do not pose much of a threat to the Yoshis. The Yoshis can only attack them when in submarine mode; they are also only encountered while in this form.

Its name is a portmanteau of praying mantis, a type of insect, and manta ray, a kind of stingray. Preying Mantas move up and down in a small area, making them little of a threat to the Yoshis. A Preying Mantas can be defeated from one of Submarine Yoshi's torpedoes.
