World 7-2 is the second level of World 7 in Super Mario Bros. and the twenty-sixth level overall in said game, taking place underwater.

In Hard Mode the level is used for both World 2-2 and World 7-2. In VS. Super Mario Bros. the level is used as World 2-2. It is also accedentily used as the stage that appears when the player does the Minus World glitch in World 1-2 in the NES and Famicom versions.

Layout

The layout of World 7-2 is similar to World 2-2, but with additional Bloobers and Cheep-cheeps. The player starts with their character walking into a Warp Pipe, which will take them to the underwater portion of the level. Many Bloobers and Cheep-cheeps swim around in the water, with Bloobers moving toward the player and the Cheep-cheeps swimming across the screen. Both enemies can also move through platforms and walls. In three locations in the level are areas with strong currents that will pull the player downward, so the player needs to rapidly swim in order to escape; if the player goes too far down, they will lose a life. The Warp Pipe at the end of the stage will take the player to the flagpole, where a Piranha Plant can be found in the pipe the player exited from.

In Super Mario Bros., World 7-2 is where the Minus World glitch level takes place in the Nintendo Entertainment System version.

In Super Mario Bros. Deluxe, the player can collect five Red Coins, find a hidden Yoshi Egg, and get a medal based on their score. The Yoshi Egg is found in a Hidden Block to the left within the third current, and the score to beat is 24000. The Red Coin locations are:

  • Above the first platform
  • At the bottom-left of the first current
  • On top of the third coral after the first current
  • Between two pieces of coral after the second current
  • Above the exit pipe
