Mario Party 4 was an online Flash game that was made to promote the release of Mario Party 4 on the Nintendo GameCube. It was available on the official Mario Party website, until its rebrand the following year for Mario Party 5.[1]

Gameplay

The game features gameplay similar to the traditional Mario Party formula. The player, as Mario, rolls a Dice Block and moves a certain amount of spaces. Along the way, the different spaces will do similar things to other games in the Mario Party series. The Blue Space will give the player 3 coins and the Red Space will take 3 coins away from the player. There are also Item Shop spaces, which contain wallpapers and screensavers players can buy with the coins earned in the game. There are random elements that occasionally occur on the board to cause trouble. For example, on Toad's Game Board, a Bob-omb can sometimes randomly appear and knock the player back a certain amount of spaces. The Mushroom Space will reward the player with a Mini Mushroom or Mega Mushroom; only the Mini Mushroom serves a purpose to help the player traverse through gate paths available on two of the boards. There are Info Spaces which provide the player with information and tips for the minigames on the Nintendo GameCube Mario Party 4.

The Event Space will give the player the option to play a Minigame. The Chance Time Space will give the player the option to play a Game of Fortune. This kind of minigame will allow the player to spend coins as a chance to win or lose coins.

Unlike main series titles, going over Info Spaces, Item Shop Spaces and arrow spaces (forks in the road) count towards the player's dice move.

Party Planner

The Party Planner option allowed players to send friends an E-card invitation to a party, using artwork from any of the Mario Party 4 playable characters.

Wallpapers

Each board's in-game shops feature a collection of wallpapers and screensavers that can be purchased for ten coins each. After purchasing a wallpaper, the player can download each in two different resolutions, either 1024x768 or 800x600. The screensavers can be downloaded for use on PC, Mac OS9, and Mac 0SX. Each board's shop features four different downloads with the exception of Koopa Troopa's Game Board which only features three.

Minigames

These are triggered when the player lands on an Event Space. The player can earn coins if they win these games.

Games of Fortune

These are minigames triggered when the player lands on a Chance Time Space. These minigames allow the player a chance to either earn or lose coins based on their luck, and requires coins to play.

Boards

The game features 5 simplistic boards, each owned by a different character.
