Dashing is a move in the Mario franchise, which allows a character to run much faster then normal. In the first four Super Mario series games (Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World), Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, or Toad could dash by holding the button B (X or Y in Super Mario World). This will make the character run faster than usual, causing them to complete a level very quickly. While dashing, a character can run over small pits. Dashing reappeared in Super Mario 64, with the same function. Later 3D Mario games such as Super Mario Sunshine and the remake Super Mario 64 DS implemented the dash move as an ability for the playable characters. In New Super Mario Bros., its sequel, and Super Mario 3D Land, if Mario, Luigi, Blue Toad, or Yellow Toad dashed and jumped quickly after, they could jump higher and farther than normal. In Super Mario 3D World, each of the playable characters are capable of dashing/sprinting at different speeds after some moments of running.

Dash is also the name of a move that was used by Twink during the events of Paper Mario. It was the only move that Twink could use. When Twink uses it, he bashes into the enemy; in this case, Kammy Koopa. This move was made stronger by Princess Peach's Focus to defeat Kammy Koopa.
