9-Volt's pet Fronk in WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$!, then known as Shag

Fronks are small creatures from the WarioWare series. They appear in many colors besides the most common color, yellow. The name Fronk presumably refers to both the species and the character, 9-Volt's pet Fronk. In his first appearance in WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$!, he goes by the name of Shag in the English version, which is derived from his Japanese name Shaggy. Since WarioWare: Twisted!, however, he has been known as Fronk in English, due to the word "shag" doubling as a vulgar slang term for sexual intercourse in British English.

They appear in various microgames in every installment of the series. In WarioWare: Twisted!, Fronk has his own Fronk-themed microgames that are shorter than the other games, but they appear randomly in any of the stages instead of Fronk having his own stage.

In WarioWare: D.I.Y. Showcase, Fronks appear in 18-Volt's stage, acting like enemies.

9-Volt's pet Fronk appears in WarioWare Gold. He first appears in 9-Volt's story, where he expresses concern over 9-Volt's hatred of math. Fronk, after realizing that 9-Volt has some skill in the subject, then compares math to an RPG. With this comparison, 9-Volt thanks Fronk for "kind of mak[ing] math fun", and offers to give Fronk his dessert as thanks. However, Fronk declines, saying that "an old guy like [him]" should not eat sweet foods, admitting that he turned 1 the previous month and owes his youthful looks to practicing "8-bit yoga". Fronk also appears in the ending of 5-Volt's story. Additionally, like in WarioWare: Twisted!, Fronk has his own set of microgames, which involve himself and have shorter lengths than the other microgames. However, he does not have his own stage. Instead, Fronk's microgames appear alongside others' microgames, such as in the Dancing Team and Potluck Gang stages. This game marks Fronk's first speaking role, where he is voiced by Todd Haberkorn.

Game & Wario

Fronks in Game & Wario

Fronks have their own multiplayer game called Islands. In this game, two or more players take turns shooting different colored Fronks on a spinning island. This spinning island is marked with several different sections. The section the Fronk lands on determines the player's score. After five turns, the person with the most points is declared the winner.

A yellow Fronk is also featured in some of the other minigames. In Shutter, taking a photo of him gets 200 points. He appears in a Sole Man remake in Gamer, as well as a game based off of Nighttime Allergies. In Taxi, he floats by on a yellow balloon, which can be shot. Should he be taken to the shelter, the player will get 500 points. In Patchwork, the last medium puzzle is based off of him.

Trivia

  • They are shown in the background of the microgame "Sole Man" for the WarioWare, Inc. stage in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
  • Fronks also have their own microgame in WarioWare: Touched!. It only appears whenever the players play a microgame or a stage that involves blowing into the microphone. The players must not blow until eight seconds have passed. If they do so, the microgame is won. However, if the players blow in the microphone at all, the Fronks will fall and they will lose the microgame.
    • In the Album, this microgame will be played after the main microphone microgame is played 5 times. This also applies to the boss microgame, Seedy Area.
  • The Factory appearing in WarioWare: Smooth Moves is very similar to a Fronk's head.
