Artwork of a Flashing Egg, from Yoshi's New Island.
First appearance Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (1995)
Latest appearance Yoshi's New Island (2014)

A Flashing Egg,[1][2] also named Flaming Egg,[3] is a very rare Yoshi egg that has spots that flash rapidly between magenta, green, red, and yellow. Flashing Eggs appear in every game of the Yoshi's Island series. In Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and its Game Boy Advance version, Flashing Eggs can be found on the ground in some areas, such as Shy-Guys On Stilts. When a Flashing Egg hits an enemy, a red coin appears. Flashing Eggs are not usable in Yoshi's Island DS, though one appears in an unreachable area of Yoshi's Island Easter Eggs; their behavior from the previous games is still intact in the game's code.[4] Flashing Eggs return as usable items in Yoshi's New Island, now having a glowing, pink coloration and appearing in Bouncy Beanstalk Walk and Chomp Rock Challenge.
