Why does this page exist? Weegie baby (talk)

I've thought that too. This should just be merged with Charles Martinet. Kaptain Kaptain Skurvy doing a Punch from the Donkey Kong Card Game Skurvy 17:29, December 1, 2024 (EDT)
My guess is because it's an official title that Nintendo themselves have used. PrincessPeachFan (talk) 12:45, December 2, 2024 (EST)
The only reason I created the page was because I wanted to have its names in other languages documented somewhere, and having a dedicated "Names in other languages" section on the page of a real life person would have looked ridiculous. If that is somehow sorted out acceptably, then I'm not opposed to a merge with Martinet's page. I'd argue, though, that the "Mario Ambassador" title isn't an intrinsic part of him, and that it's realistic to foresee Nintendo conferring the same title to other people who contribute significantly to Mario's legacy in the future. It's not as if the wiki had a separate page for... Martinet's voice, for instance. -- KOOPA CON CARNE 18:09, January 24, 2025 (EST)

Merge this to Charles Martinet[edit]

Merge to Charles Martinet 13-0
This is based on the conversation above. This article mostly exists under the pretense that "Mario Ambassador" was translated differently across different languages, as mentioned by the author, KCC. Well, since then, we've retooled the Names In Other Languages section into a more generalized "Naming" section, which can easily support multiple terms like that in the page. Thusly, in the absence of both any real information on what a "Mario Ambassador" does outside of being Charles Martinet's dedicated role, as well as a naming section that can now support it, we see no reason at all to keep this split anymore. This is Charles' special position just for him, ergo, it should go on his page, and the NioL language renders that moot!

...Okay, elephant in the room here, we are indeed aware of one very real hurdle with this; what do we do if Nintendo inducts another Mario Ambassador, and it turns out this isn't just for Charles Martinet? Well, simple; if that happens, we can re-split the page again to describe it as a more general position. While we have our doubts that this is going to be some prestigious position that will have some lineage to it, we're obviously aware of the possibility, and we want to make it clear right now that this should be split up if it does actually become one. For now though, it's just Charles, and it's only split off because of an outdated way we handled the Naming section.

Merge to Charles Martinet[edit]

  1. Camwoodstock (talk) Per proposal. Until the day comes we have a second Mario Ambassador, at least, if that day ever does come.
  2. Nelsonic (talk) Per. This is just an alternate title given to Martinet after he stepped down from voicing Mario and related characters.
  3. Sorbetti Ambassador (talk) Per all.
  4. Mario (talk) The position doesn't really mean anything.
  5. Pokey Ambassador (talk) Per proposal.
  6. Sparks (talk) Per all.
  7. Rykitu Ambassador (talk) Per proposal.
  8. Evie, the Ambadassador (talk) per proposal.
  9. Ba Ambassador (talk) It's a meaningless title, entirely PR buzzword.
  10. Altendo Ambassador (talk) Per the other ambassadors.
  11. Kaptain Skurvy (talk) Per all.
  12. Elephant Hewer (talk) Wowie zowie!
  13. MarioComix (talk) Charles: "It's a-me, Mario Ambassador, and the only one for now!"
