Adding citations

With how the Ratings template is set up currently, it is not possible to attach citations to the ratings, as it ends up breaking the template due to it being an invalid value. I'd like citations to be attached to the ratings, similar to that of release dates and foreign dates, so that one can see where the rating of a form of media came from. If anyone has any suggestions on how to attach citations for ratings, let me know. Apikachu68 (talk) 15:09, March 21, 2025 (EDT)

I've added citation parameters, e.g. esrbC. --Steve (talk) Get Firefox 15:48, March 21, 2025 (EDT)

Require citations for ratings?

I've been thinking, as foreign name and dates are now required to be cited by this wiki, can ratings be required to be cited as well? It will encourage editors to add sources for the ratings we have on the wiki, which will allow viewers to see where we are getting the information for these ratings. I've already partially have implemented this for all of the TV series and films I could find ratings for, and would like this to apply for our game articles as well. I would make a proposal for this, but I don't want to feel obligated to construct one. Maw-Ray Master (talk) 18:27, March 31, 2025 (EDT)

Re-order the ratings template based by country and region

So similar to the problem that Yoshi18 (talk) described in his proposal, the current organization of the ratings template is quite understandable inconsistent. This might not look apparent when you look at video game page like Paper Mario: Color Splash for example where the ESRB is understandably first. But then on movie pages like The Super Mario Bros. Movie, the first thing I see is the Australian Classification Board rating. A similar problem exists on TV shows like The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3. Both of them were productions in the United States, yet they are pretty low to see their exact movie/TV rating as classified by the MPAA/TVPG respectively.

As such, I propose the following order:

  • United States-based ratings (ESRB, MPAA, TVPG)
  • Canada-based ratings (CHVRS, MCC)
  • Japanese-based ratings (CERO, Eirin)
  • PEGI
  • BBFC
  • IFCO
  • Other European-based ratings in alphabetical order
  • Other American-based (by continent not the country) ratings in alphabetical order
  • Other Asian-based ratings in alphabetical order
  • ACB
  • Any other ratings in Oceania or Africa.

I think this order make sense, although we have English speakers around the world, our primary focus and our operations are within the United States, and Canada's own rating systems often serves side-to-side with the United States'; crucially it also provides the Japanese rating near the top as it is the country where Mario originates. PEGI, BBFC, and IFCO as the first three European ratings make sense as well, the latter two being from a country predominately English-speaking. I'm open for adjustments, but I think this is the right order for the ratings template.

This would require a modification to the template and get rid of the interactive and non-interactive separation, as some rating systems, like your mentioned ACB, is used in both types of media. I'm not necessarily against this move, but it would need to group them by region rather than type. Altendo 19:15, May 27, 2025 (EDT)

I don't think the separation between the interactive and non-interactive actually matters. The thing is, not every part of the ratings template is ever going to be used (aside from the Australian Classification Board who has ratings for many different mediums). If you mean by the code within the template itself, then I guess grouping them by region is suitable. That said, the order for which I want to prioritize is video games, movies, and then TV shows. -- PanchamBro (talkcontributions) 23:55, May 27, 2025 (EDT)
