Mario is the main character of the Super Mario franchise. He usually tries to save Princess Peach from the evil Bowser and his minions, who are trying to conquer the Mushroom Kingdom. Not only does he save Princess Peach, but he also races and plays various sports with his brother Luigi and his friends Yoshi and Toad, along with others.
History
Mario has appeared in hundreds of games. The first game he appeared in was in Donkey Kong. In this game, he tries to save Pauline, who is the damsel in distress instead of Princess Peach, from Donkey Kong. In this game, he was referred to as "Jumpman" instead of Mario. The first time he was referred to as Mario was in the video game Mario Bros., which was also the debut of Luigi. Mario gained massive popularity when the video game Super Mario Bros. released. This video game earned Mario a permanent seat as Nintendo's mascot.
