History

Gargantua Blarggs first appear in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island; they return in Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3. They attempt to block Yoshi's path by rising from the lava as he approaches. To pass by a Gargantua Blargg, Yoshi must throw an egg into its mouth. The Gargantua Blarrg will then sink into the lava, allowing Yoshi to continue past it. However, it re-emerges after a few seconds. Unlike the smaller Red Blargg, Gargantua Blarggs cannot be defeated with an Anywhere POW.

A counterpart of Gargantua Blarggs known as a Nep-Enut also debuts in this game. Its behavior is similar, although it is blue and resides in water instead of lava.

In the game Tetris Attack, a Gargantua Blargg appears as a ruler of the "Lava World", being allied with Flamer Guy. In here, as many other old enemies of Yoshi, was shown as a friend of Yoshi, being enchanted by Bowser to work for him. It replaces the flame fairy, Flare, from the original Panel de Pon.

Gargantua Blarggs return in Yoshi's Island DS, retaining their behavior from Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. They appear only in Gilbert the Gooey's Castle. A new variant also called Gargantua Blarggs is introduced as well. These Gargantua Blarggs are much taller and can destroy dense rocks.

Yoshi's New Island

In Yoshi's New Island, Gargantua Blarggs return, appearing in two levels: Gargantua Blargg Attacks! and Hotfoot Hurdle.

Yoshi's Woolly World / Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World

In Yoshi's Woolly World and Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World, Gargantua Blarggs merely appear as an outline composed of an orange scarf. It takes three yarn balls to make the Gargantua Blargg hide back down into the lava. They mainly appear in the level Lava Scarves and Red-Hot Blarggs. There is also one in the fire area of King Bowser's Castle. If Yoshi is given an ice watermelon by the "All-you-can-eat ice watermelons!" Power Badge, he can use the melon to ultimately take down a Gargantua Blargg with one blow.

Yoshi's Crafted World

Gargantua Blarggs reappear in Yoshi's Crafted World, in the level Poochy's Magma Run. They are made of bubbled slime and have the same behavior as usual. When a Gargantua Blargg is hit by Yoshi's egg, it spins sinking down. There is also a costume and a craft based on Gargantua Blarggs.

Profiles

Yoshi's Island series

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island

  • Shogakukan guide: 溶岩の池に住む怪物。やっぱりタマゴを当てれば、しばらくおとなしくなる。[1] (A monster that lives in a lava pond. Of course, if you hit it with an egg, it will go quiet for a while.)
  • Player's Guide: The hot-blooded member of the Blargg family. Maybe he's so angry because no one will trim his eyebrows.[2]

Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3

  • Shogakukan guide: 溶岩の中に住む怪物。タマゴを当てると、約5秒ほど溶岩にしずんでおとなしくなる。このスキにとびこえてしまおう。[3] (A monster that lives in lava. If you hit it with an egg, it will sink into the lava for about 5 seconds and become quiet. Take advantage of this opportunity to jump over it.)

Yoshi's New Island

  • Shogakukan guide: 溶岩に潜み、ヨッシーが近づくと溶岩から浮上してきて襲ってくる。倒すことはできないが、タマゴを3回当てるとひるむ。ひるませてから逃げるとよい。[4](It lurks in the lava, and when Yoshi approaches it, it rises out of the lava and attacks. You cannot defeat it, but if you hit it with three eggs, it will flinch. You can escape after you make it go down.)

I am a Blargg, Gargantua Blargg

My exploits are kind of famous. I rule the Lava World, and all should fear me. But lately, this rain has put a damper on my powers. Hmmm...
