- “So... I'll take you with me... ...to the deep dark...”
- —Big Lantern Ghost, Paper Mario
The Big Lantern Ghost is the mid-boss of the Shy Guy's Toy Box from Paper Mario. He is a giant Lantern Ghost with a bandage on his forehead who resides in a dark room. After being defeated in battle, it is revealed that the Big Lantern Ghost had been holding Watt prisoner inside of his lantern.
When beginning the battle, the Big Lantern Ghost cannot be attacked directly. In order to target him, the player must repeatedly attack the lantern that he holds in order to spread light through the room and render him visible for attack. Once the lantern's light is large enough, he will occasionally blow into the lantern in order to extinguish it and become unavailable to attack again. The Big Lantern Ghost is also capable of casting a ring of light from his lantern, dealing 2 damage to Mario and incapacitating his partner for several turns if not guarded against. Once the player defeats him, he flees and drops his lantern, which Watt is trapped inside of. After freeing her via breaking the lantern, Watt joins Mario's party as his sixth partner.
Super Mario-kun flavor text
- 「大きなおしりでヒップドロップとかカンテラフラッシュとかいろいろ攻撃してくるけど、暗やみの攻撃は少しひきょうじゃないですか。だから、かぶりものをとってピカピカにしてやったのだ。」 (He'll Hip Drop you with his big butt or use the Lantern Flash attack, but the Darkness attack is a little unfair isn't it? That's why his headdress was taken away and he was made sparkly.)
