Shield Guys are a variant of Shy Guy in Paper Mario: Color Splash. Shield Guys hold wooden shields, which they use to guard themselves. Their shields do not completely block attacks, but they do cause them to avoid most of the damage. Shield Guys attack Mario by hitting him with their shield, causing him to take 10 HP of damage. Shield Guys can appear in red, yellow, or blue.
Shy Guys holding barrel lids similarly to shields also appear in Mario Tennis Aces's "Shy Guy Train Tussle" co-op challenge, although they go unnamed in the game. In the challenge, hitting them once knocks away their shield, leaving them open to be hit for coins. In addition to their usual colors, a green variant appears as well. In the July 2019 update, pink, cyan, and orange variants are introduced as well.
