A Papaya in Super Mario Sunshine.
Artwork of a papaya

Papayas[1] appear in Super Mario Sunshine as fruits located on Isle Delfino. By eating a papaya, a Yoshi can become orange and spit juice of the same color, which turns enemies into stationary orange platforms. Papayas lack any unique purpose, but in the episode The Yoshi-Go-Round's Secret, a papaya can be used to turn a Yoshi orange, a requirement for accessing the secret course.
