Pinna Park is a large amusement park island found in Super Mario Sunshine, the overall island being known as Pinna Island. It is located just off the coast of Isle Delfino's mainland, and forms the "tail fin" of the dolphin-shaped island, hence its name: "pinna" is the Italian word for "fin" or "flipper". Additionally, a yellow Toad near the cannon leading to the island claims the island is called "the pineapple": "pinna" being a pun on "piña", the Spanish word for pineapple.

This level is unlocked after a total of ten Shine Sprites have been collected, after which Mario can access Pinna Park by using a cannon found in the northwest corner of Delfino Plaza. A single boat sits in the water at the level access point, but it cannot be used by the player. Pinna Park can be seen from every location except for Noki Bay and the Delfino Airstrip. Additionally, Pinna Park is the only location from which Sirena Beach can be seen in the daytime. Looking toward Pinna Park from Pianta Village during one of the episodes that takes place at night, the player can see that it is lit up, revealing that the park remains open at night.

It and Gelato Beach are the only locations on Isle Delfino that are never covered in goop. It is also one of two locations that does not contain any nozzle boxes, the other being Sirena Beach. Pinna Park is one of the few locations that features music that is not a variation of Delfino Plaza's music. Instead, part of the beach theme uses a rearrangement of the secret levels that take place in the sky, making this the only main area in the game to use a cover of a secret level's music. Pinna Park is also unique in that it is the only location in the game where Yoshi is available in all 8 episodes after being unlocked. In addition, it is the only location that contains two Yoshi eggs, one in the park and one on the beach (although the one found in the park is only available during Episode 6).

Pinna Island is split between two locations: a beach and a theme park. The beach runs along the eastern coast of the island, has several palm trees, and is home to the Great Sunflower and the Sunflower Kids. The sand will also reveal several Yellow Coins, Blue Coins, and Fruit if the player sprays along it. During Episode 2, a Monty Mole firing Bullet Bills will be placed on the far side of the beach, and during Episode 4, several Snooze-A-Koopas will be placed near the sunflowers. Also during both Episodes 2 and 6, the entrance to Pinna Park will be closed off.

Upon entering the park itself, the entrance will be closed, preventing the player from going back to the beach. In Episode 6, Mario must feed Yoshi fruit that turns him orange and then ride him to the Yoshi-Go-Round, since the ride is missing the orange Yoshi.

Outside of Super Mario Sunshine, Pinna Park reappears in the background of the Delfino Plaza stage in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Pinna Park
The Roller Coaster, the Ferris Wheel, and the Pirate Ships as seen in the Super Mario Sunshine intro

Pinna Island is split between two locations: a beach and a theme park. The beach runs along the eastern coast of the island, has several palm trees, a papaya-bearing Pianta-shaped tree[1] also known as the Deku Tree[2], and is home to the Great Sunflower and the Sunflower Kids. The sand will also reveal several yellow coins, blue coins, and fruit if the player sprays along it. The number of coins in the sand will increase after Episode 4. During Episode 2, a Monty Mole firing Bullet Bills will be placed on the far side of the beach, and during Episode 4, several Snooza Koopas will be placed near the sunflowers. Also during both Episodes 2 and 4, the entrance to Pinna Park will be closed off.

Upon entering the park itself, the entrance will be closed, preventing the player from going back to the beach. Pinna Park is made up of five rides, four of which must be used to obtain a Shine Sprite in a specific episode. Several of these rides make an appearance in the Isle Delfino welcome video during Super Mario Sunshine's intro sequence.

Clam Cups[edit]

Pinna Park
Mario and Nokis in the Clam Cups

The Clam Cups are on the right near the entrance, and have different kinds of shells spinning around in circles. They are based on real-life teacup amusement park rides. Spraying the clams will open them up, with the green one containing a blue coin. It seems to gain a lot of popularity in Episode 7. If the player goes to the Clam Cups, they can see a Noki playing a conch shell. The song it is playing is the first six notes of the Ground Theme from Super Mario Bros.

Ferris Wheel[edit]

Pinna Park
Overview of the Ferris Wheel seen in Episode 5

The Ferris Wheel is featured in Episode 5: The Runaway Ferris Wheel. This ride is in the back of the park. In Episode 5, the Ferris Wheel spins extremely fast, and Mario must climb up to the Ferris Wheel to make it go back to normal. Mario also has to ride on the Ferris Wheel to the top to get the Shine Sprite.

Pirate Ships[edit]

Pinna Park
The Pirate Ships as seen in Episode 3

The Pirate Ships are featured in Episode 3: Red Coins of the Pirate Ships. They are on the right side of the park, behind the Clam Cups. They start by swaying gently, then swing in a full circle every third full swing. In Episode 3, the Pirate Ships have red coins on them, and Mario has to collect all eight of them to find a Shine Sprite.

Roller Coaster[edit]

The Roller Coaster is featured in Episode 1: Mecha-Bowser Appears! and Episode 8: Roller Coaster Balloons. The track of the Roller Coaster goes all over the park, and has water rockets placed at regular intervals. Mario cannot get on the Roller Coaster cars normally, so he must speak to the operator to get on. In Episode 1, Mario must ride on the Roller Coaster while shooting water rockets at Mecha-Bowser and destroying the Bullet Bills. In Episode 8, Mario must ride on the Roller Coaster and shoot water rockets at the twenty Bowser Jr.-shaped balloons floating around the park.

Yoshi-Go-Round[edit]

Pinna Park
The Yoshi-Go-Round as seen in Episode 6

The Yoshi-Go-Round is featured in Episode 6: The Yoshi-Go-Round's Secret. The Yoshi-Go-Round is in the middle of the park, and has different colored Yoshis going around in circles. In Episode 6, Mario must feed Yoshi fruit that turns him orange and then ride him to the Yoshi-Go-Round, since the ride is missing the orange Yoshi. The Noki Director explains that the Orange Yoshi ride is missing because it broke and they didn't have the funds to fix it, so he had it removed.

1-Up Mushrooms[edit]

  • Pinna Park:
    • On the beach, obtained by eating a group of green butterflies near the Great Sunflower with Yoshi.
    • In the park, inside of the upper Brick Block on the wall in the area behind the Ferris Wheel.
  • The Beach Cannon's Secret:
    • Inside of the middle crate within the group of three on the first gray platform with the series of orange blocks that bounce Mario to the upper section.
    • On the edge of an L-shaped block in the second series of red vanishing blocks in the upper section.
  • The Yoshi-Go-Round's Secret:
    • Obtained by fully ground pounding the frontmost nail of the first orange block platform, where the Red Switch Plate is located.
    • Under the right archway of the blue structure in the spotted block section. Riding a blue spotted block will eventually lead Mario into it.
    • Inside the Brick Block within the final structure of orange blocks where the Shine Sprite is located. An ice block is directly underneath it that must be sprayed with F.L.U.D.D. to melt, so Mario cannot obtain it on his first visit.

Notable mistakes[edit]

In Episode 3, when the player views Pinna Park from the beach, they can see the Ferris Wheel turning faster than usual. When the player enters Pinna Park, the Ferris Wheel is turning at normal speed. Episode 5's beach shows the Ferris wheel turning normally, but entering the park makes the Ferris wheel turn rapidly (as it should).[4] This implies that episodes 3 and 5 switched places during development. This was fixed in the PAL release, of which Super Mario 3D All-Stars is based off. During the game's ending when Mario picks up a damaged FLUDD, Pinna Park can be seen in the background with the Ferris wheel incorrectly colored red. This can also be seen in the credits scene where Peach and Mario are standing at Sirena Beach.
