The Perfect Ban Mario Character Daijiten is a publication published in 1994 by Shogakukan and written in collaboration with Nintendo.^[1] It is mainly a character book containing short bios about characters, as well as general information (country of origin or, in the case of enemies, group to which they belong, personality, games the characters are featured in) and a few other tidbits of information.

It also covers the games and the characters featured within them. The main games, as ordered by the book, are Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario USA, Super Mario World, Super Mario Kart, Mario & Wario, Super Mario Land, Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins, Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3, Donkey Kong (Game Boy), Donkey Kong (arcade), Donkey Kong Jr., Mario Bros., and Wrecking Crew. The lesser ones, shown at the end of the book, are Donkey Kong 3, Dr. Mario, Mario Paint, Yoshi's Cookie, Yoshi, Yoshi's Safari, and Wario's Woods. The main characters are shown after the main games, and use colored artwork. Lesser characters and species are listed afterwards via Japanese gojūon order, and use black and white artwork. Most artworks used here had already been published in previous materials; for characters and enemies for whom no existing artwork was available, original artwork was created based off sprites.

A listing of enemy types in the Daijiten. Enemy types not mentioned in the list, however, are 天体てんたい (Celestial body) such as Angry Sun and Star, and ?（魔女まじょ） (Witch) such as Witch.

王族おうぞく King clan	クッパをはじめとするカメ族の王たち。コクッパなどがいる。 (Bowser and other kings of the Turtle tribe. Includes the Koopalings and others.)
カメ族ぞく Turtle clan	ノコノコやブロスなどのカメ軍団。おなじみの一族。 (Turtle armies such as Koopa Troopas and Bros. A familiar clan.)
フラワー族ぞく Flower clan	フラワーとは名ばかりの植物モンスターたち。凶暴だぞ。 (Plant monsters that are not just called flowers. They are ferocious.)
キノコ族ぞく Mushroom clan	キノコ王国を裏切り、クッパに味方したキノコたち。 (Mushrooms who betrayed the Mushroom Kingdom and became allies of Bowser.)
アクア族ぞく Aqua clan	水中に住むモンスターたち。プクプクやゲッソーなどがいる。 (Monsters that live underwater. These include Cheep Cheep, Blooper, and others.)
ウエポン族ぞく Weapon clan	兵器の形はしているが、命をもっているモンスターたち。 (Monsters that are in the shape of weapons but have life.)
メカ族ぞく Mecha clan	マリオを倒すために開発さらた機械じかけのわな。 (Mechanical devices developed to defeat Mario.)
恐竜族きょうりゅうぞく Dinosaur clan	恐竜ランドで生れた恐竜たち。意外とかわいい奴が多い。 (Dinosaurs born in Dinosaur Land. Many of them are surprisingly cute.)
クリープ族ぞく Creep clan	虫の姿をしたモンスターたち。チョコマカと動く。 (Monsters in the form of insects. They move fidgetily.)
ビースト族ぞく Beast clan	魔法でモンスターになった動物たち。チョロプーなどがいる。 (Animals that have been magically turned into monsters. That includes Monty Mole and others.)
岩石族がんせきぞく Rock clan	命を持った石像のモンスター。ドッスンなどがいる。 (Stone statue monsters with life. Includes Thwomp and others.)
ゴースト族ぞく Ghost clan	テレサをはじめとする幽霊たち。ファイアなども含まれる。 (Boo and other ghosts. Fire and others are also included.)
フライ族ぞく Fly clan	空中から攻撃してくるモンスター。役に立つものも多い。 (Monsters that attack from the air. Many of them are useful.)
その他た Other	テクテク族や、ワリオランドに登場する海賊などがいる。 (The Trudge clan, the pirates who appear in Wario Land, and others.)
