So like. In the most bare-basics of terms, in terms of the Pikmin lore, Olimar, Louie, the Koppaiates, and all the others you meet in Pikmin 4 are not aliens. They're all (sorta; uh, there's a bit of flavor text for a few characters in 4 that imply a vaguely different species, but nothing that actually significantly matters and we extremely doubt anyone is about to argue Pitunia proves that all of these guys count as "Alien") humanoids of some description. The oxygen of PNF-404 is toxic to them, and they're very small, but they are--for all intents and purposes--analogous to "humans", in the absence of any clear information of what exactly happened to the humans in this world. (Seriously, Pikmin has never answered that despite flirting with it plenty of times. This ain't Splatoon. We're just genuinely unsure if Pikmin is post-apocalyptic or not.)
In contrast, by the narrative of the series themselves, Pikmin themselves are indeed alien species; or at the very least, they count as xenofauna. They aren't space-faring (though the Onions can fly into the sky, of course, it's only into low-orbit, probably around where airplanes are) due to some mysterious aspect that hasn't been fully explained yet, but while they are basically planet-locked to PNF-404, they are a xenofauna compared to the various flora and fauna we hear about back on planets like Hocotate or Koppai. There is inherently a difference between a Space Dog like Oatchi, who comes from the planet Giya and is just a Space Dog, and Moss, who was native to PNF-404 and seems to hold some Pikmin DNA in her. However, PNF-404 is Earth in some capacity; we literally don't know how and we absolutely don't know what happened to the humans of this world, but Earth and PNF-404 are. One in the same. The remains of human civilization are goddamn everywhere in these games.
So, we're kind of at an impasse, depending on how we want to define "alien". Is "alien" like, based on what planet our protagonist is from? And does "being in space" qualify you as an alien inherently? There's like, 4 ways you can interpret this:

I think its important to have a Super Mario perspective for this. in the Pikmin games, The Pikmin are definitely aliens. Olimar and company are the protagonists, and they visit an alien planet with alien creatures and alien artifacts. However, in the Super Mario franchise, Pikmin are just kinda.. there. They hide out in grassy locations in the Mushroom Kingdom and are generally just kinda chilling, no different to any other plant-based creatures. Meanwhile, Olimar's few Mario-related appearances feature him in full spacesuit getup and with an attitude of being far from home. In Smash he lands with his spaceship onto the stage, and in the unused Superstar Saga cutscene, he treats Mario and Luigi like creatures from PNF-404. IMO, as far as the Super Mario franchise is concerned, Pikmin are natural creatures, while Olimar is a being from outer space, the distant planet "Hocotate", making him the alien. --PopitTart (talk) 22:06, April 27, 2025 (EDT)

Aliens proposal planning
Edit summary for when I post the Category:Aliens proposal: The Category:Parasites proposal sequel we didn't ask for but honestly could really use (though then again I'm not killing this category)
"Figure out what to do with this category" - will be name of section on talk page
Robots / technology - even if created by aliens, do they count?
Possible additions?
Category:Smithy Gang - A possible new edition to the category. I WOULD just put the entire category in, but some of these minions were recruited / brainwashed from Earth (like Wizakoopa). We'd have to do separate categories for Aliens and Smithy Gang it seems (and determine a list of who counts here)

Sparks of Hope stuff?
"OK BUT WHAT ABOUT PIKMIN" (cam & the others' thoughts)
- Captain-centric: The captains aren't aliens, but the Pikmin are. This is what we would do, personally; even weirder captains such as Pitunia aren't seen as being "alien" in the same way the Pikmin are by the games themselves.
- Earth-centric: The captains are aliens, and the Pikmin are a xenoflora and counted as aliens. We don't think we like this, but it would be technically correct.
- Earth-centric, and Earth is PNF-404 taken literally: The captains are aliens, but since PNF-404 is Earth, the Pikmin aren't. Don't... Don't do this one. This decision, on top of being incredibly unhelpful to your average browser, is also confusing, and you would require a whole essay on an extremely abridged version of Pikmin lore--kinda like this one!--just to explain the thought process. This is min-maxxed for "most confusing, least helpful".
- Fuck it, space travel is too open: Nothing is an alien. When everything is in space nothing is. We don't think this is helpful either.
We'd be fine if someone shared a second opinion, but this is our little not-that-formal mini-essay for a crash course on Pikmin lore. ~Camwoodstock ( talk ☯ contribs )

Brothership side quest gossip
Weird cases
An Invitation to the Spa
Where is this dialogue from?
- "Dearie, did you have a massage at that spa?"
- "No, I haven't yet, sweetie. But I bet a massage would take 50 years off my age."
- "Oh my! If you lost that many years, you'd be a baby again!"
- All three: "Can you imagine?! Ohohohohohoho!"
A Big Debate
Didn't find footage of this convo, but it was in the text dump:
- "Those girls headed off to the beach, didn't they? In deep-debate mode?"
- "Tee-hee-hee! Oh, to be young! And so full of opinions!"
- "Shall we try to hear their debate?"
- All three: "What a notion! Ohohohoho!"
If the player speaks to them again, the above conversation is skipped and only one line of dialogue is said.
- "Looks like the girls who like to debate have gone to the beach."
Fishing quests
Letter from a Drifting Island, The Left-Behind Toad, and Separated appear to have identical dialogue. However, one of the lines is different for one of the quests:
- "But you know what? I was at the fishing spot earlier. I saw a weird object floating by. It looked like a bottle."
- "But you know what? I was at the fishing spot earlier. I saw a weird object floating by. It looked like a bottle."
- "People say you can catch something that looks like a bottle at the fishing spot..."
As they're in this order, I'd guess that Separated is the one with the altered line, but I'm not sure... It also seems like there is no dialogue for these quests when speaking to the gossips a second time.
Update: It's not Separated. That uses the "But you know what?" line.
Update 2: Check if Letter from a Drifting Island even has gossip dialogue.
